Jerrod Carmichael Gets a Second Pilot at NBC

Back in December it was announced that NBC was developing a pilot with standup Jerrod Carmichael, and while the presentation just missed the cut for pickup, Deadline reports that the network is giving Carmichael another shot with a brand new pilot. NBC is "eyeing a quick turnaround" for the project, though no details have been released on it yet. This news joins Carmichael's most recent projects that include appearing in Seth Rogen's Neighbors and taping his hourlong HBO standup special directed by Spike Lee, which will air on the network sometime this fall.

Jerrod Carmichael Is Getting His First HBO Standup Special

Comedian Jerrod Carmichael is getting his very first standup special, and it's going to be a big one: an hour-long special for HBO. The untitled special will be taped May 7th at The Comedy Store, and it will air later this year. Carmichael's HBO hour is being produced by Funny Or Die and directed by Spike Lee. This will be only the second standup special Spike Lee has directed, following the 2000 standup concert film The Original Kings of Comedy.

In an interview with us back in 2012, Carmichael discussed plans to do a special:

NBC Is Developing a Show Created By and Starring Standup Jerrod Carmichael

NBC is working with standup Jerrod Carmichael to develop a new show. Deadline reports that the network has ordered a presentation (a short pilot) to be created by and star Carmichael. A semi-autobiographical comedy, the potential show would star Carmichael as an optimistic guy "who is eager to take on the world, but is too busy taking on everyone and everything in his small corner of it." Scott Ellis (2 Broke Girls, Weeds) is attached to direct. Carmichael played a recurring role on the Fox sitcom Goodwin Games last season and has a supporting part in the upcoming Seth Rogen/Zac Efron movie Neighbors. Carmichael placed first for LA [...]

Jerrod Carmichael Shows Pete Holmes the Quarter He Stole from Bill Cosby's House

Standup Jerrod Carmichael — who recently landed an hour HBO standup special — paid a visit to The Pete Holmes Show last night, and he showed Holmes the greatest treasure he owns: a 1995 quarter stolen from Bill Cosby's house. Click through to watch Holmes make Carmichael sit through a bunch of impressions then launch into an entirely different conversation about bears.

Talking with Jerrod Carmichael about Stand-up, Being a Nice Guy, and Bea Arthur

A wildly funny and fast-rising stand-up, Jerrod Carmichael's career has been blowing up lately. He was named one of Backstage's 10 Comics to Watch this year and one of Variety's 10 Comics to Watch the year prior. He also landed a recurring role on Fox's midseason comedy The Goodwin Games, which was created by the How I Met Your Mother team of Carter Bays, Craig Thomas, and Chris Harris and also stars Scott Foley, Becki Newton and Carmichael's stand-up peer TJ Miller. I recently had the chance to interview Jerrod Carmichael, and we discussed his favorite comedians – young and old, why auditions are horrible, and his [...]
