Here Are Two Clips from Jerry Lewis's 'The Day the Clown Cried'

Back in August, a YouTube user uploaded some rare behind-the-scenes footage from Jerry Lewis's unreleased 1972 film The Day the Clown Cried in which he stars as a clown in a concentration camp, and the same user posted two more clips on New Year's Day. This might be the only footage from the movie we ever get to see, so enjoy.

But the Holocaust itself is generally glossed over in such works of entertainment, either given a passing mention or existing solely in the background as an ever-present threat. After all, it’s just too serious. Nevertheless, several filmmakers have attempted to find humor in this humorless event.

Most often, one finds moments of gallows humor creeping around the edges [...]

They say necessity is the mother of invention. That may true, but let’s not forget the three headed monster-father of vanity, greed, and laziness that plants the seed. Don’t get me wrong; this is a good thing. Without these important ingredients, we would be missing out on any number of inventions that make life oh so livable like cars, movies, and Spanx.

Luckily for us, comedians have all of these traits in spades! So, what happens when comedians decide to really put their nose to the grindstone and invent techniques that change the industry altogether?

Let’s find out!
