Jimmy Pardo Tells Conan About His Trip to the Doctor's

World class stand-up Jimmy Pardo is also the audience warm-up guy on Conan, and last night, he got to appear on the show for a chat with Conan O'Brien. Of course, it involved Conan goading him venting about testicular problems and an embarrassing trip to the doctor's office.

Inside Never Not Funny's 4th Annual Pardcast-a-Thon

When the podcast boom first materialized, at the forefront stood Jimmy Pardo’s ‘Never Not Funny,’ a new type of show consisting of merely a few friends sitting around a table chatting through live microphones. Sure, it sounded simple then – a recorded conversation – but it would soon become a format to be duplicated time and time again to the well-known shows of today.

‘Never Not Funny’, a weekly podcast (or Pardcast) hosted by the comic and his producer, Matt Belknap, features a different guest each week along with the others “around the room,” as Pardo puts it. Today, six years since it’s birth, it remains one of the [...]

Tracing the Birth of the Comedy Podcast Boom

The Montreal Just for Laughs Festival is not every comic’s cup of tea. That being said, many consider it to be the most prestigious event of the year. Not only is it the largest international comedy festival in the world, it is also the best attended by industry representatives, precisely the put-off for some. Last year at the 29th installment of the summer rendezvous in Quebec’s cultural capital the Keynote Address was delivered by Marc Maron and kicked off the Conference finale — a three-day parade of panels, parties, pitching and pimping between the purse-holders and the performers.

“I have never been more nervous about anything than to [...]

The Laugher Has Become the Laughee: Andy Ritcher Gets His Own Sidekick

Sick of his boss hogging all of the attention, Andy Ritcher got his own sidekick in Jimmy Pardo last night. "I'm like you. I need to be validated by someone else when I say something funny," Andy explained to Conan. The addition of Conan's warm-up comedian and champion podium jockey revealed the true nature of the sidekick roll: banter stooge and meat-based laugh track.  Plus the location of Pardo's desk makes him look about two feet tall. If only Jimmy also had a small sidekick, thus beginning an infinite stream of increasingly tiny Jimmy Pardos. It's just Jimmy Pardos all the way down.

Conan O'Brien and Andy Richter Bowl Against the Nerdist Guys

Here's the latest video from the Nerdist YouTube channel's series All Star Celebrity Bowling, with the Nerdist hosts (Chris Hardwick, Jonah Ray, and Matt Mira) taking to the bowling alley to compete against Conan O'Brien and Andy Richter. Comedian Jimmy Pardo, who is both Conan's warm-up guy and the host of a Nerdist web series, chose to bowl on the Nerdist team. Will Pardo's bowling abilities lose him his job at Conan? You'll have to watch and find out.

Conan Interviews Jimmy Pardo, His Warm-up Guy

Jimmy Pardo's a talented standup, host of the popular podcast Never Not Funny, and the audience warm-up guy for TBS's Conan. Here he is on Conan as a guest for a change, telling some great stories about his fascinating son and throwing the first pitch at a White Sox game (part two after the jump). Also, Pardo's father-in-law is Walter Koenig, the guy who played Chekov on Star Trek. Jimmy Pardo has the most interesting family ever.

The Warm World of Warm-Up Comedians

In their recent comedy issue, Backstage looked at the oft unappreciated role of the warm-up comedian. Comedians like Brody Stevens and Jimmy Pardo discuss warming-up shows like Conan and Chelsea Lately. It's a good warm-up read, if you're planning on reading a longer piece about talk shows.

Jimmy Pardo's Very Good Year

It’s hard to tell if naming his podcast (excuse me, pardcast) “Never Not Funny” might have been Jimmy Pardo’s clever ploy to limit internet research on his detractors — Googling “Jimmy Pardo not funny” only points you right back to the podcast. Because it’s difficult to find much criticism of Pardo, a “comic’s comic” who’s been performing stand up professionally since the early go-go ‘90’s heydays. But really, you need to look no further than the man himself if you want to know Jimmy Pardo’s limitations. He’ll tell you about them (more on that later).

Pardo’s honesty is what makes him endearing and, combined with his considerable charm, [...]

Jimmy Pardo's Pardcast-a-Thon Raises Over $114,000 for Smile Train

Comedian Jimmy Pardo's Pardcast-a-Thon, his fourth annual 12-hour live comedy marathon to raise money for the charity Smile Train was held this past weekend in Los Angeles, and the result was an overwhelming success. Smile Train is an organization that provides free corrective surgery for children with cleft lip and palate, and this year's Pardcast-a-Thon raised over $114,000 for the cause, more than doubling the amount collected last year. Pardo had 25 guests during the show, including Conan O'Brien, Jon Hamm, Zach Galifianakis, Sarah Silverman, Rob Corddry, Scott Aukerman, and more. Video of the entire 12-hour event will be released on demand via Dailymotion in December, with [...]

Watch Jimmy Pardo's New Nerdist Web Show 'Write Now!' Right Now

Jimmy Pardo, host of the Never Not Funny podcast, longtime Conan warm-up comic, and all-around good guy, has a new web series, Write Now!, debuting on the Nerdist Channel this week. Based on his popular live show of the same name, Write Now! sees Pardo assembling a group of professional comedy writers to write material for him live on stage, passing him index cards of jokes that he's seeing for the first time as he reads them. In the first episode, Pardo's guest writers are Frank Sebastiano (SNL), Laurie Kilmartin (Conan), and Ed Lee (Are You There, Chelsea?). Whoever writes the "Joke of the Night" wins $50. If [...]

Is the Comedy Podcast Scene Too Incestuous?

"We’re all kind of using the same guests," said Jimmy Pardo of comedy podcast hosts, before announcing an upcoming Never Not Funny with guests Marc Maron, Todd Glass, Adam Carolla and Chris Hardwick. Just kidding! Further opinions are aired in this article about the seriousness of comedy podcasts, from John Hodgman's notion that podcasts can't rightfully be called comedy "when you’re weeping” to Pete Holmes' point that the vast array of content means that listeners can expect podcasts to suit their ever more specific needs. Now there's a fun thought experiment: what is your specific, personal dream podcast? Mine would be the male trio of Stella plus [...]
