Danny McBride Talks 'Eastbound & Down' Season 4 and the Possibility of Season 5

It came as a surprise last year when Danny McBride and his Eastbound & Down co-creator Jody Hill signed on for a fourth season after they had always planned to end the HBO series after three. When speaking to Collider this weekend, McBride revealed that they're writing the new season now and that it begins filming this May. He summed Season 4 up by saying, "The theme of this is basically what happens to the hero after he rides off into the sunset.  That’s kind of where we’re starting this season."

While the Season 4 renewal was unexpected, McBride says he and Jody Hill will most likely be moving [...]

Jody Hill to Reboot 'Dukes of Hazzard', Kind of, Maybe

Eastbound & Down co-creator Jody Hill is currently writing a remake of Dukes of Hazzard for him to direct. However, though it's a movie set in the 70s about an outlaw duo, driving fast cars, it may not be about the Hazzards per se. Basically, Hill is writing a movie like the Dukes of Hazzard but it just as easily can become the Princes of Danger. Either way, this is pretty exciting since Hill obviously has a very distinct, very dark comedic voice and an understanding of how to draw humor out of overzealous southerners. His hope is to model it after the great Sam Peckinpah action [...]

Eastbound and Down Season Three Is Currently Being Written, Coming in 2012

Noted in the latest chapter of Vice's super-in-depth set reports from Your Highness is this tidbit: Danny McBride and Jody Hill are currently writing the third season of Eastbound and Down. The plan is to shoot it later this year for a premiere in early 2012. Where will the third season take Kenny Powers? We've already seen that these guys aren't afraid to make huge changes between seasons, so it seems like anything is in play. So we've all got that to look forward to.

Danny McBride Is Making an Animated Series for FX

The FX network just bought a new animated comedy pilot produced by Danny McBride and his frequent co-conspirators Jody Hill and David Gordon Green, Deadline reports. FX is searching for a companion series to its animated hit Archer, and this could be it. The potential series, entitled Chosen, has been in development since February and will likely feature McBride in a supporting voice role. Chosen was created by Grant Dekernion, a former writer's assistant on McBride, Hill, and Green's HBO series Eastbound & Down. Dekernion would voice the lead character on Chosen, a rapper who's just been released from jail and is looking for redemption. So, take a look at that, [...]

The Perfect Misanthropy of The Foot Fist Way

It’s a rare phenomenon that a film so completely decimates an audience’s understanding of civility that it forces them to recalibrate their entire moral compass. Before Danny McBride swindled us into liking Kenny Powers, the bullying, ultra-arrogant former major league pitcher in Eastbound & Down, he forced on us a protagonist far more brutal and amoral. Fred Simmons, strip mall Taekwondo instructor and small town psychopath, intruded upon the public consciousness in 2006 with Jody Hill’s The Foot Fist Way, leaving audiences stunned and struggling to regain their internal equilibrium, as if they had been suddenly dropped into higher altitudes.

Fred Simmons’s savage presence loomed so large over the [...]

Fox's Two New Animated Series Include Napoleon Dynamite and a Jonah Hill Project

Fox loves itself some animation! It just ordered two new animated series for next year, one based on Napoleon Dynamite and one from Jonah Hill.

Jim Carrey Is Stealing an Armored Car for Lorne Michaels

Jim Carrey is in negotiations to star in a new comedy called Loomis Fargo, based on a real-life armored car heist, for producer Lorne Michaels and director Jared Hess (Napoleon Dynamite). The movie is based on the Loomis Fargo Bank Robbery, a 1997 heist pulled off by a group of armored car guards in Charlotte, North Carolina. Carrey would play the gang's ex-military leader. Past drafts of the script have been written by Eastbound & Down duo Jody Hill and Danny McBride, as well as Up All Night creator Emily Spivey, but the draft Carrey and Hess are working from was penned by Chris Bowman and Hubbel [...]

Danny McBride Wants to Make "a Southern Godfather"

Here's the movie Danny McBride want's to make next, which would be based on a true story: "These rednecks robbed Loomis Fargo for over $17 million. And they would have gotten away with it, except they stayed in the town they were living in. They literally moved from trailers into the richest neighborhoods in town, lived like kings, bought their wives tit jobs. Jody wants to make it like a southern Godfather." Yep, I'm sold. [via]
