Hitchin' a Ride: John Murray Forces a Guitar on 30 Rock's Sue Galloway

Here's the fourth and, sadly, final installment of Hitchin' a Ride, in which John Murray picks up his fellow 30 Rock castmember Sue Galloway to bring her to a rehearsal for her one-woman show. Along the way John decides to gift her with an acoustic guitar, which he then makes her play, for better or worse.

Hitchin' a Ride: John Murray Drives SNL's Chris Kelly Around New York City

What happens when you give 30 Rock's/UCB's John Murray a shiny new Ford Focus and then have him go give rides to his comedy buddies? That's the question we're answering with our new series Hitchin' a Ride.

In episode one, John swings by the Brooklyn apartment of SNL writer Chris Kelly to drive him into midtown Manhattan for a panel he was doing at the Paley Center — a panel you can check out right here. They had a chance to talk about Chris's time at both SNL and The Onion and also John stopped to buy a giant stuffed giraffe for some reason.

Low Standards with John and Matt, Episode 1: Cool Runnings

Here's the debut episode of Low Standards with John and Matt, our new web series that focuses on movies that don't get the love or attention they deserve. Starring John Murray and Matt Fisher and produced by CamLin Productions, I couldn't be more excited about this.

The first episode focuses on that John Candy classic, Cool Runnings. From awkward racial overtones to John Candy's magnificent bulk to the first modern slow clap, this movie had it all.

Hitchin' a Ride: John Murray Drags Improv Everywhere's Charlie Todd Into the Heart of Times Square

On today's new episode of Hitchin' a Ride, John Murray picks up Improv Everywhere's Charlie Todd to bring him to his show at the UCB Theatre, just a few blocks away. Unfortunately for Charlie, John had already picked up a couple of tourists and decided to bring them up to Times Square to a Broadway show on the way. It was in the opposite direction, sure, but it gave them time to talk, and isn't that what's really important?

Low Standards: The Beauty of Michael Keaton in Ron Howard's Gung Ho!

In today's episode of Low Standards, John and Matt focus on Gung Ho!, the 1986 Ron Howard movie that features Michael Keaton at his finest. Centering on an American auto plant that's being run by the Japanese, it sticks Keaton between the surly, lazy, oftentimes-racist workers and the uptight, unsmiling Japanese executives to amazing effect. A perfect snapshot of the time, this one's a classic. At least to John and Matt.

Coming Next Week, Splitsider's First Web Series: Low Standards with John and Matt

I am very excited! That's because early next week marks the premiere of Splitsider's first web series, Low Standards with John and Matt. In the show, your hosts John Murray and Matt Fisher (who you might recognize from the TGS writers room on 30 Rock) dive deep into some forgotten or unloved comedies from the past. Check out the promo above to meet your hosts, and then check back next week for the first episode, in which we explore the majesty that is Cool Runnings. Also, the show is being produced by our friends at CamLin Productions, so give them a look for all your video production [...]

It's That Episode 47: 'Magnum P.I.' Scholar, '30 Rock's John Murray

On "It's That Episode" Craig Rowin (UCB Theatre) invites guests over to watch any episode of any TV show they want. They discuss the episode and other crap.

John Murray (30 Rock, Death By Roo Roo) really likes Magnum P.I. Like, he really likes it. Like a lot. Also Craig read the whole Magnum P.I. article on Wikipedia, which was extensive, so you'll learn some kickin' Tom Selleck nuggets including the fact that he was originally set to play Indiana Jones.

Hitchin' a Ride: John Murray Heads Deep into Queens with Chris Gethard

In today's brand-new episode of Hitchin' a Ride, John Murray of 30 Rock/UCB heads deep into Queens to pick up Chris Gethard from his apartment to give him a lift to his pickup basketball game. Along the way, they have a chance to talk about The Chris Gethard Show, hit the carwash, and see what two small, white, nerdy comedians look like when they play basketball together. It ain't pretty.

Low Standards with John and Matt: Real Genius, Featuring Mike and Jenny Birbiglia

On this week's episode of Low Standards, John and Matt welcome guests Mike and Jenny Birbiglia to discuss the 1983 Val Kilmer classic Real Genius. Mike and Jenny are superfans of the movie, claiming that it plays a big role in their relationship and that a Real Genius movie poster is hung proudly in their apartment. And can you blame them? This is prime Kilmer we're talking about.

For more from the lovely Mike Birbiglia, you've got a few options! If you're in NYC, you should go check out his one-man show, My Girlfriend's Boyfriend. If you can read, you should check out his book Sleepwalk With [...]
