The Next 'Comedy Central Roast' Will Take on Justin Bieber

Comedy Central just revealed its next Comedy Central Roast victim, and they couldn't have made an easier choice. Network president Kent Alterman confirmed today that Justin Bieber will be the next celebrity to get his own roast special, though an air date for the ceremony has not yet been announced: "Justin has been asking us for a few years to roast him, and we just kept telling him to go create more source material first. We're thrilled he listened." Hopefully we can count on at least one appearance by Kate McKinnon.

'SNL' Review: Louis C.K. Is Still Hilarious, In Case Anyone Was Wondering

When Louis C.K. last hosted SNL in November 2012, there was magic in the air. A week after Superstorm Sandy walloped New York, with huge parts of the city still without power, it just felt appropriate to see a comedian so emblematic of the New York spirit, with its gritty nature and heartfelt sincerity, serve as the face of the show that week. And to see him kill it as he did, with a hilarious parody of his FX show Louie starring Abraham Lincoln, was a magical moment for comedy nerds, like watching Conan O'Brien hosting the Emmys in 2006 or witnessing Joss Whedon's The Avengers win over both [...]

This New 'Between Two Ferns' with Justin Bieber May Be the Best One Yet

Here's a brand new episode of Zach Galifianakis's Emmy-nominated web series Between Two Ferns. His guest this time around is Justin Bieber, and it's one of the show's best episodes ever, full of twists and turns.

'SNL' Review: Not A Belieber

It's not easy to reconcile my preferences for the alternative comedy scene that this site represents and my admiration for an eternally mainstream show like SNL. I want a lineup of weird, dark premises and sketches that establish clear games… and then intentionally subvert them. I want sketches to end with Mr. Show-like transitions, with a character leaving the room and walking onto a new set, where a new sketch begins, and throwaway jokes from earlier sketches to reappear later, like Kroll Show is doing. I want an episode where Nick Offerman hosts, Garfunkel and Oates is the musical guest, Danny Pudi sits silently in the background of every sketch, [...]

Justin Bieber Will Be 'SNL's Host and Musical Guest February 9th

Young person Justin Bieber has been hinting about hosting SNL on Twitter the past week, and now, Billboard has confirmed that he's set to be the host and musical guest for the show's Feburary 9th episode to promote his new acoustic album. This will be Bieber's second appearance on the show after serving as musical guest on an episode hosted by Tina Fey in 2010. He even appeared in a sketch in said episode, singing to Fey in a sketch where she played his schoolteacher (embedded below). Justin Bieber will be the third musician to host the show this season, which has been unusually saturated with [...]

'SNL' Review: A New Year with Kevin Hart

A month ago, Chris Rock wrote an essay for the Hollywood Reporter about race in Hollywood, specifically mentioning a sketch he appeared in with Sasheer Zamata on SNL earlier this season as an example of normalization of black actors being able to do comedy without having to always represent the black community:

Twenty years ago when I was on Saturday Night Live, anything with black people on the show had to deal with race, and that sketch we did didn't have anything to do with race. That was the beauty: The sketch is funny because it's funny, and that's the progress. And there are black guys [...]

'SNL' Review: Jonah Hill's Award-Worthy Performance

Anytime I begin to think Jonah Hill might be overrated, I only need watch him host SNL. Yes, it's still pretty weird to think that the guy from Superbad has spent the last few years scoring Oscar nominations and hanging out with Brad Pitt, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Martin Scorcese. And it's easy to say the industry might be a little too infatuated with a comedy star who can surprise with a nuanced performance in a movie academy voters actually care about.

But then Jonah Hill comes back to host SNL, and suddenly it makes sense. Not only is the guy the real deal — he seems like a delight [...]

Watch Justin Bieber in a Cut 'SNL' Sketch Bill Hader Called "The Greatest Trainwreck Ever"

Here's "Song for Daddy," a cut sketch from SNL's dress rehearsal that NBC just uploaded online this week. It's followed by commentary from Bill Hader and writers Rob Klein and John Solomon, explaining how Hader was playing to an audience full of tween girl Justin Bieber fans who didn't get the sketch and how a stage wall almost collapsed on Justin Bieber a minute into the sketch. Justin Bieber Calls Lorne Michaels "Lauren" on Instagram

This weekend's SNL host Justin Bieber instagrammed this photo of himself and SNL head honcho Lorne Michaels prior to the show, but he made a pretty crazy mistake in the caption. Bieber wrote, "Watch me on snl tomorrow night thank u Lauren ur the man." So, either Justin Bieber is a sloppy speller or he legitimately thought Lorne Michaels's first name was "Lauren." I can't blame him; when I was 12, I briefly thought Lorne's name was "Lauren" too, but I would have double-checked if he ever asked me to host SNL. Also, unlike Bieber, I'm not from Canada, where I'm pretty sure Lorne Michaels is on [...]

Don't Worry, Dane Cook and Justin Bieber Are Both Working on New Network Sitcoms

Universally beloved media personalities Dane Cook and Justin Bieber are both developing new sitcoms for big TV networks, Deadline and TV Guide report. Cook doesn't have a show yet but he just signed a new development deal with NBC to make a series that will serve starring vehicle for himself. He recently starred in the comedy Next Caller, which was picked up for six episodes by NBC but unexpectedly canceled before it aired because the network was unhappy with the creative direction of the show. "Dane Cook is one of the most talented comedians working today," says NBC President Jennifer Salke. Justin Bieber's show is set [...]

Girl and Guy Code Team Up to Give You Some Badass Sleep and Water Facts

Here's a new video from Funny or Die featuring tons of people including Andrew Law, Mike Mitchell, Echo Kellum, and some kid named Justin Bieber posing as Girl/Guy Code combo show "Human Code" here to tell you all about sleep and water — two totally hip things that they could never live without.

'SNL' Review: No Escape from Miley Cyrus

After Justin Bieber hosted SNL last season, I concluded that SNL will never quite be the alternative comedy show we'd like it to be. There's no denying the show would be much funnier if producers only booked the heroes of comedy nerds to host the show, as it did last season with Louis CK and last week with Tina Fey. I've made the case several times that the show would be far better if only former cast members hosted — indeed, SNL has enough star alumni to fill a few seasons' worth of episodes.

But SNL isn't that show. The ongoing inclusion of performances by a musical guest [...]

The Best of 'SNL' Season 38

It snuck up on us, didn't it? The end of SNL Season 38 brought along with it key staff changes, among them the upcoming departure of head writer Seth Meyers and the immediate departures of cast members Bill Hader, Fred Armisen, and (unofficially) Jason Sudeikis. Few people have shaped SNL over the past 8 years more than these men — Meyers with his leadership in the writers room and charm as Weekend Update host, and Hader, Armisen and Sudeikis as the cast's workhorses and loadbearing performers. Indeed, many pegged Season 38 as a "transitional year" in the wake of Kristen Wiig and Andy Samberg leaving the show a year ago, [...]

Justin Bieber and Kenan Thompson Promo 'SNL's Valentine's Day Show

Justin Bieber is pulling double duty this weekend as SNL's host and musical guest, and here's your first glimpse of what he'll be bringing to the show: puns about his weird last name, wacky handshakes, and funny bulgy-eyeballs glasses.
