Revisiting the Surreal World of 'Viva Variety'

The Paley Center for Media, which has locations in both New York and LA, dedicates itself to the preservation of television and radio history. Inside their vast archives of more than 150,000 television shows, commercials, and radio programs, there are thousands of important and funny programs waiting to be rediscovered by comedy nerds like you and me. Each week, this column will highlight a new gem waiting for you at the Paley Library to quietly laugh at. (Seriously, it’s a library, so keep it down.)

The members of the popular MTV sketch group The State have successfully infiltrated all of popular culture at this point. They’re in TV shows [...]

Wanderlust Trailer Plays Like a Beautiful Wet Hot/State Reunion

The trailer for Wanderlust is out and it features (in addition to stars Paul Rudd and Jennifer Aniston) Ken Marino, Joe Lo Truglio, Kerri Kenny-Silver, Kathryn Hahn, Justin Theroux and Alan Alda, all of them directed by David Wain. The whole thing looks kind of like a hippie-er version of Wet Hot American Summer, but co-produced by Judd Apatow. Who else watched this and now wants to immediately move to a commune with me?

Kerri Kenney-Silver, Jamie Denbo, and Chelsea Handler Are Developing a Brothel Comedy for IFC

IFC is developing another scripted comedy that sounds a lot like an amazing Reno 911! spinoff. Deadline reports that the network is currently developing a series called Rabbit Hole co-created and written by Kerri Kenney-Silver and Ronna & Beverly's Jamie Denbo produced by Chelsea Handler and her company Borderline Amazing. The series will center on "Nevada's second most famous brothel" with Kenney-Silver playing Dame Delilah, a character she first debuted on My Damn Channel back in 2008. Comedy Central was developing Rabbit Hole in December 2011, but it never got picked up to series.

Rabbit Hole joins other recently announced IFC projects including a Spoils [...]

The All-Star Version of the Risk! Podcast Is Chock Full of Famous Comics' Stories

Podcast aficionado Joe Berkowitz already introduced us to the Risk! podcast, hosted by The State's Kevin Allison, but the most current episode is a special one. It's the All-Star Episode, and unlike most of this podcast's episodes, it costs money to download. But only $2, and for that you get stories from Sarah Silverman, Kevin Nealon, Nick Swardson, Marc Maron, Adam McKay, and Kerri Kenney-Silver. Not a bad deal, and a great intro to a Splitsider-approved podcast to boot.

Trade Roundup: Kerri Kenney-Silver, Dan Fogelman

In addition to its three script orders earlier today, Comedy Central has started developing a half-hour scripted/improv mockumentary from Reno 911!'s Kerri Kenney-Silver and UCBer Jamie Denbo. The show is set at "a low-rent legal brothel in Winnemucca, Nevada called Dame Delilah’s Rabbit Hole Ranch," and Kenney-Silver will play Dame Delilah. Man I hope this becomes a real show.

ABC has green-lit a pilot by Crazy, Stupid, Love screenwriter Dan Fogelman about "a family that moves into a highly desirable gated community in New Jersey only to discover the entire neighborhood is made up of aliens disguised as humans." Seems like "weird neighbors" is a trend this [...]
