Sony Is Reportedly Developing a 'Married…with Children' Spin-Off

Fox's hit sitcom Married… with Children, which ran for 11 seasons on the network from 1987-1997, might be getting its own spin-off. According to a report by E! News, Sony Television Pictures is currently considering a series based around the present-day life of Bud Bundy played by David Faustino. Talks are early and no deals are yet in place, but at Katey Sagal's Hollywood Walk of Fame ceremony this week, Christina Applegate said they're "going to do something with Dave maybe. I don't know if it will be in character … I don't know if I'm allowed to speak on that at all. So I should probably stop [...]

The Laugh Track: A Film Noir

They call him Bickelhaupt. First name John. He's a "re-recording mixer," you know the old Hollywood type. Only thing dirtier'n his pockets is his recording studio. He moseyed on into my office first thing Monday morning, slapped my secretary across the face and poured the both of us a scotch – neat.

He took his cigar out of his mouth. "What's the word on the New York Magazine article, Cantor? How much do they know?" Then he took another cigar out of his mouth. He was storing a bunch of them in there, I guess.

I shook my head real slow and lit a cigarette. "Jig's up, Bickelhaupt. [...]

Al and Bud Bundy to Share the Screen Once More on 'Modern Family'

David Faustino, who you are probably most familiar with as young Bud Bundy from Married with Children, has signed on to a guest spot on Modern Family. This is fun, as his former TV father, Ed O'Neil, is on that show! In theory, I would really love to see him appear as a smartass underachiever who constantly gets on Jay's nerves, all while Jay complains about not wanting to have sex with Gloria and Manny behaves like a promiscuous airhead. Alas, the two won't even share any scenes together: Faustino will be playing Claire's "highly successful classmate" at her college reunion. But at least we can imagine Al [...]

The Lost Roles of Married… with Children

While Married with Children hasn't aged as well as some of the sitcoms that were its contemporaries, the show's influence is vast. Married with Children changed the way American families were portrayed in TV sitcoms, taking a drastic departure from the lovey-dovey "everyone gets along" attitudes of The Cosby Show, Leave it to Beaver, and their ilk. Sure, you can point to All in the Family or National Lampoon's Vacation as earlier examples of darker and more realistic depictions of family life, but Married with Children was the show that did the most to rebel against the gooiness of 1980s family sitcoms and served as the prototype for the [...]

Is 'New Girl' the First "Post-Post-9/11 Show?"

In an interview with Written ByNew Girl executive producer Brett Baer explain his theory:

When we tested the show, after we put the pilot together, it was strange how people were responding. We were all surprised by how connected people felt to it during the focus group testing. I was thinking long and hard about it, and I said to Dave [Finkel, another New Girl producer], "What we've done here is create maybe the first post-post-9/11 show." The comedy in the past 10 years prior to our show had an edge to it. It was satirical. There was a cynicism about the comedy. What our show came along at the [...]

Ted McGinley Is Here to Save Christmas From Godless Liberals

Ever wonder what Jefferson from Married with Children is up to these days? Starring in insane-looking Christian movies about evil atheists trying to kill Christmas, apparently. Oh, Jefferson.
