What’s on TV This Week: Loads of Comedians on Late Night

This week Chris Pratt takes to the late night circuit to promote Guardians of the Galaxy, which opens on Friday — he'll be appearing on both The Late Show with David Letterman and Late Night with Seth Meyers. Comedians Josh Wolf and Ron Funches, who frequent the Round Table on Chelsea Lately, will also be on late night this week. Other comedians to watch this week on late night include Scott Aukerman, Mike Birbiglia, Michelle Wolf, Aubrey Plaza, Paula Pell, Dana Carvey, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, and Martin Lawrence.

Check out the week’s full comedy listings below:

Chris Rock on Martin Lawrence and the Low Point of His Career

Judd Apatow interviewed Chris Rock as part of the Vanity Fair comedy issue that he guest edited, and while the whole thing is great, I love this bit about what he considers to be the low point in his career:

The low point happened about a year after I was off Saturday Night Live. I was a cocky bastard. Even though all evidence said I wasn’t a star, I thought I was. I drove a red Corvette and kept my shades on indoors, just a fucking asshole. Anyway, I had a gig in Chicago where I was the headliner. At every gig there would be some opening [...]

Fair Warning: There's a Sequel to Big Momma's House Coming

Here is the trailer for Big Mommas: Like Father, Like Son. I don't know much about it, but I'm pretty sure Judd Apatow wrote it, right? Looks like an Apatow project.

FX Orders Lawyer Sitcom Starring Kelsey Grammer and Martin Lawrence

Yesterday evening, FX ordered a new untitled sitcom that stars Kelsey Grammer and Martin Lawrence as a pair of mismatched Chicago lawyers. Like the network's Charlie Sheen vehicle, Anger Management, the Grammer/Lawrence show has been picked up for a first season consisting of 10 episodes and if those 10 episodes score high enough in the ratings, FX will order 90 more episodes to be produced over the next two years. Bob Boyett (Full House, Family Matters) and Robert Horn (Designing Women, Living Single) are serving as showrunners.

The official description of the show, which FX ordered to pilot in January, says it follows two "Chicago lawyers from vastly different [...]

Spike TV Is Giving Eddie Murphy a Star-Studded Tribute

Macho cable network Spike TV just announced it’s throwing a flashy tribute to comedy mainstay Eddie Murphy next month. A lot of big-name Hollywood types are set to toast Murphy and his three-decades-long career during the special, entitled Eddie Murphy: One Night Only, including Chris Rock, Samuel L. Jackson, Tracy Morgan, Martin Lawrence, and Eddie’s brother, Charlie Murphy. The TV special will include comedy sketches, musical performances, and short films, ending with an appearance by Eddie Murphy, of course, because he’d be a big jerk if he skipped out on this big party Spike is throwing in his honor.

Kelsey Grammer and Martin Lawrence Are Trying to Make a Sitcom Together

Kelsey Grammer and Martin Lawrence are developing  a new multi-camera sitcom together that they would both star in and produce, according to a recent news story posted on Deadline. Before you go and say that's a bad idea, you should know that the article mentions the two actors had a meeting with the studio in November in which they "showed great chemistry." You feel pretty silly now, don't you? The plan is to get a network to commit to 10 episodes of the untitled yet-to-be-written show, with an option to pick up 90 more if it's a hit, which is the model that Charlie Sheen's FX show Anger [...]

Someone Alert Gina: Martin Lawrence In Talks For New TV Show

Vulture reports that Martin Lawrence is currently in negotiations with CBS over a potential new sitcom, a show which the Martin actor would star in as well as executive produce. As you might recall, Martin ended its run on Fox in 1997, meaning there is now a generation of humans on this earth with only a rudimentary knowledge of the force we call Sheneneh.
