'SNL' Review: A Season High with Woody Harrelson

For the past two years, many viewers have described SNL as being in a "transitional phase." This phase began with the departures of Kristen Wiig and Andy Samberg in 2012, followed by Jason Sudeikis, Bill Hader, and Fred Armisen in 2013, then by Seth Meyers in early 2014. The old guard was clearing out, and their replacements didn't seem up to the task of continuing that golden era. And while not all of the episodes in this interim period have been bad — in fact, many have been quite good, and the hit-to-miss ratio has remained roughly the same — SNL seemed lost in the woods, with almost weekly PR crises, [...]

Adam Pally Explains Why He Is a Fancy Jewish Matthew McConaughey

Happy Endings' Adam Pally showed up at Conan in style last night. (I can only assume that he rode his characters Max's limo to the studio.) He also proved once and for all that he is "the closest you could get to Matthew McConaughey while still being Jewish," which is a fantastic characterization and also means that the writers of Happy Endings are now obligated to write in a scene where Max plays the bongos shirtless on a surfboard while wearing a bandana and a coyly stoned half smile.

'SNL' Review: Lena Dunham, Guest Stars, and Lots of Impressions

This time last year, Megh Wright and I compiled a list of 10 first-time SNL hosts we'd like to see someday. The list included Stephen Colbert (right?) and the now-sadly-late Philip Seymour Hoffman, but decidedly not Lena Dunham. She was one of the first people we discussed, and we both agreed to pass over the Girls creator/star in favor of figures who might make better hosts. I told Megh then that Dunham would be a person people like us would want to see host, but by the time the episode started, we'd quickly realize, "Oh, this wasn't as good an idea as we thought." Dunham doesn't strike me [...]

Jack Black to Murder Shirley MacLaine in Richard Linklater's Bernie

I looks like Richard Linklater's latest, Bernie, is going to be coming to theaters at some point in the near future. The dark comedy starring Jack Black was just bought by Millennium. "Inspired by a true story, the film stars Jack Black as the title character, an amiable funeral director who kills a rich widow (Shirley MacLaine) and creates a ruse that she's still alive." Also, Matthew McConaughey is in it! OK, I'm listening.

Richard Linklater's Bernie Looks Like Good Wholesome Murderin' Fun

Here's the first trailer for Richard Linklater's dark comedy Bernie, based on the true story of a Texas murder. Jack Black is fun as a charming, murderous assistant funeral director, Shirley MacLaine is awesomely cranky, and Matthew McConaughey is…also in the movie. Bernie comes out April 27, which could be enough time to befriend a mean old widow, shoot her and stuff her in your freezer, if you want to really relate to the protagonist's journey.

Will Ferrell, Matthew McConaughey Return For Eastbound & Down Season 3

I want the people to watch what is going to be consecrated here. And I will bring my son down here, and he will watch Will Ferrell and Matthew McConaughey return for Eastbound and Down's third season. According to The Hollywood Reporter Ferrell's maniacal car salesman Ashley Schaeffer factors into the final season's story arc, as Kenny Powers deals with the pregnancy of special lady friend April Buchanon. McConaughey will guest once again as openly gay talent scout Roy McDaniel, who will in all likelihood continue to suck his dream's cock.
