The Austin Powers Musical Is Red-Hot in Development, Unbelievably

Tony-winning co-director of The Book of Mormon Casey Nicholaw might sign on to direct the Austin Powers musical currently in development. Burt Bacharach and Elvis Costello are doing the music, and Mike Meyers will write the story, which is a prequel to the movies about "how Powers first acquired his mighty mojo." This thing has some serious talent attached to it! Look out, Book of Mormon. You're not the only one who can win Tonys.

Come Back, Mike Myers. We Love You

I grew up a giant Mike Myers fan. I saved up to buy the Wayne's World book (there was one!), I camped out outside The Spy Who Shagged Me for a night before its release, and the "Head! Move! Now!" line from So I Married An Axe Murderer is still used in my apartment probably far more than it should be. And I'm not alone! A large percentage of this generation born in the 80's grew up with Mike. But recently, watching him flounder on the bottom, hidden by terrible plot and ham-fisted concepts, is a strange and frankly hurtful thing to watch. But there's still stock in Myers. [...]

Mike Meyers Is Starring in a Live-Action Pepe Le Pew Movie

After the disaster that was The Love Guru, one would hope that Mike Meyers would make some sort of comeback movie, something legitimately funny that would reaffirm his comedic talents and return him to a respected place in mainstream comedy. I am guessing that a live-action Pepé Le Pew movie that will feature Meyers voicing a CGI Le Pew à la Garfield is not going to be that movie.

The Lost Roles of Mike Myers

Outside of the Shrek films, the past decade hasn't been to kind to Mike Myers's career. While its now commonplace for critics and Internet commenters to dogpile on the man, let's not let The Love Guru taint our collective opinion of Myers. He's created a lot of beloved comedy in his time, especially with his work on Saturday Night Live, Wayne's World, and Austin Powers. In an industry where most big name comedy actors are pumping out two or three movies a year, their faces a ubiquitous presence on the posters and cardboard cut-outs that blanket cinema lobbies year-round, it's refreshing to see Mike Myers showing a little reluctance [...]

The Finally Screenings: I Just Saw Wayne's World For the First Time

In The Finally Screenings, Alden Ford is watching comedy classics that, because he grew up in a cave in Alaska, he’s never seen before. These are his takes on movies everyone else has seen before.

Last week I started this column by saying how exciting it is to think that I might see “a film I didn’t know I needed.” I was being hyperbolic, of course, but I really do like the idea of finding a classic comedy that fills some sort of gap – whether it’s simply the context for a quote I’ve heard thousands of times but never understood, or a deeper understanding of the shoulders [...]
