Samantha Bee Does Another Interpretive One-Woman 'Daily Show' Performance

Back in January, the wonderful Samantha Bee delivered an epic one-woman show reimagining the Fox News show The Five as a tragically romantic Shakespearian soap opera. During last night's Daily Show, she returned to tell the fast-paced family tale of MSNBC's Morning Joe called "My Morning Joe Family," and it's nothing short of inspired.

Watch Some Cable News Anchors Be Weird to Russell Brand

Here's Russell Brand on MSNBC's Morning Joe yesterday, dealing with a trio of news anchors who spend the bulk of the interview talking about him as if he's not there despite his repeated pleas for them to stop doing that because it's weird and rude.

Daily Show Viewers Get Another Excuse to Look Down Their Noses at Cable News

It's official: watching The Daily Show or listening to NPR will make you more well informed that most people. Watching Fox News or MSNBC will make you much less well informed. But wait, what about getting your news solely from reblogged Daily Show clips, colorful charts and Photoshops of the pepper spray cop on Tumblr? Are those people the most well informed?

Jon Stewart and Rachel Maddow: A Primer

Jon Stewart visits lovably liberal MSNBC host Rachel Maddow tonight at 9pm, and she was nice enough to put together this selection of clips of Stewart and Maddow together or referencing each other. Should be a real raging battle tonight! Or maybe more of a love-in. One of the two, I'm sure.

Alec Baldwin's New MSNBC Series Won't Be Like 'The Daily Show'

Alec Baldwin new MSNBC show Up Late With Alec Baldwin may be titled like a late night comedy show, but Baldwin said earlier this week that it definitely won't be competing with The Daily Show or The Colbert Report. "I don’t think it’ll ever be a show you’d see on Comedy Central," he told Politico. "We’re not going to go for those laughs. Other people are doing that, and they’re cleaning up in the process. [Jon] Stewart. Bill Maher. [Stephen] Colbert. They dominate. They dominate that world, and I have no desire to compete with that at all." Baldwin's show premieres on MSNBC tonight at 10 PM ET.

Young People Still Like Their News Funny

Last week, among young viewers, the Comedy Central "news" programs' coverage of the Republican National Convention beat that of the legitimate news channels. From 11:00pm – midnight, The Daily Show and The Colbert Report got better ratings than Fox News, MSNBC, and CNN among adults 18-34. Comedy Central averaged about 450,000 viewers compared to Fox's 329,000, MSNBC's 158,000, and CNN's 146,000. They also beat CNN and MSNBC in adults 18-49, but lost out to Fox News and their legions of 35-49 year-old viewers. The only concern here is that The Daily Show and The Colbert Report were mostly covering the news from the previous night. As a result, all these [...]

Could Alec Baldwin Replace Keith Olbermann at MSNBC?

MSNBC is looking to fill the blustery hole left by the newly-departed Keith Olbermann, and apparently their number one choice is Alec Baldwin. OK? I'd be down with this only if he could continue making 30 Rock and also if he did every show half in the bag, so his real opinions came out. The guy just doesn't let you know what he thinks otherwise. [via]

Think he'll be as hard on her as he is on Fox anchors? Should be interesting, in any case.

Alec Baldwin Is Hosting a Talk Show for MSNBC Starting in October

Alec Baldwin has found his first post-30 Rock TV job: hosting a primetime talk show for MSNBC. Although word got out about the show last month, MSNBC made the news official today. The new series, a "current events and culture talk show," is called Up Late with Alec Baldwin, and it'll be airing Friday nights from 10 to 11pm (which isn't as late as the title suggests) starting sometime in October. Baldwin has been developing his interviewing chops as host of the WNYC podcast Here's the Thing, which started in fall of 2011 and has featured him interviewing Lorne Michaels, Lena Dunham, Chris Rock, David Letterman, and non-comedy [...]

Stephen Colbert Drank a Steaming Hot Cup of Morning Joe Today

Stephen Colbert visited Morning Joe today, or as he rechristened it, "Evening Joe brought to you by Jack Daniels." Up for discussion was last night's Republican debate, from which Stephen was conspicuously absent. He also talks about Herman Cain, coyly maintains that he's only exploring a presidential run, and most importantly reveals why the "t" in his last name is silent – all the while criticizing the "garbage" questions thrown at him by these so-called journalists. Navigating the media is a tightrope walk, but Colbert maneuvers it with the grace of a real Southern gentleman.
