Eric Wareheim of Tim & Eric fame directed this beautiful and funny music video for the band Beach House, starring Twin Peaks' Ray Wise, and it manages to one-up Twin Peaks in being all surreal and weird and stuff.
British comedian and Running Wilde scene-stealer Peter Serafinowicz just preempted Hugh Jackman's robot-boxing epic Real Steel with his video for Alex Metric's "Open Your Eyes." Sorry, Hugh. This $12.50 belongs to Sallie Mae now. The Shaun Of The Dead star explained, "I've always wanted to do a feature-length comedy remake of Rocky. My agent told me this was wasn't realistic so a music video based on Rocky was the next best thing," which explains both the training montage and the hint at human-robot lovemaking. Serafinowicz's music video directorial debut Hot Chip's "I Feel Better" is equally silly and unnerving, the message of which is, as Serafinowicz puts [...]
Here's the newest Lonely Island video, for Turtleneck & Chain's third single "We're Back." It's also the first video of theirs to not debut on SNL, instead airing for the first time on Fallon on Friday night. It's got all the Lonely Island hallmarks you've come to expect: rapping about sexual dysfunction, getting a horse blood transfusion, and CGI Garfield sex fantasies.
Tom Scharpling, host of WFMU's beloved The Best Show, directed the New Pornographer's latest music video for their song "Moves" and cast a slew of hilarious people in it. People such as Jon Wurster, Julie Klausner, Kevin Corrigan, Wyatt Cenac, Horatio Sanz, Ted Leo (in drag, of course), John Hodgman, Bill Hader, Paul Rudd, Todd Barry, Donald Glover, and even more people beyond that! It's a great song and a great video full of great people, so it's tough to argue with.
Have you been streaming the new Tenacious D record or do you still have a sour taste from the Pick of Destiny fallout? The first music video from Rize of the Fenix is for the title track and it's funny, like really funny. I'd be lying if I didn't say I was surprised by how funny it was. Sure, they are still doing their tongue-in-cheek-but-not-really thing but the video is undeniably clever and hilariously madcap, especially if you love awful and great and awfully great and greatly awful green screen.
There should be some sort of legislation passed to ensure that great ideas be forced to actually happen, which would mean Childish Gambino and Reggie Watts freestyling at L.A.'s The Music Box last week would necessarily result in a joint album. Under penalty of hovercraft-related death.
Donald Glover, in addition to playing Troy on Community and doing standup, is also a rapper who goes by the name Childish Gambino. And here's the video for his new song Freaks and Geeks, directed by Derrick's Dan Eckman. Glover also just announced a nationwide tour that'll feature both him doing standup and him rapping. And what have you done lately?
On this week's SNL, the Digital Short was also the video premiere of "I Just Had Sex," the first single off Lonely Island's upcoming album. You know what you're getting with these guys, but that's really not a bad thing: guest musician singing the hook (in this case, Akon), a silly premise played perfectly, celeb cameos (Blake Lively, Jessica Alba, and John McEnroe) and those ludicrous touches that catch you off guard (fireworks crotches). It's definitely up there with their best songs, and it'll be fun to see what else they've got up their sleeve from this new record.
Here's Wilmer Valderrama's — sorry, Eduardo Fresco's — new music video for a song called “The Way I Fiesta,” directed by The Lonely Island's Akiva Schaffer. I am not quite sure I understand what this is for, if anything, but apparently Valderrama's alter-ego "started in a boy band named Chicos en Fuego, a group whom rejected Enrique Iglesias," and this is his big comeback video. OK! In any case, this is what The Lonely Island would make if it were a Ricky Martin joke cover band instead of three dorky white dudes from Berkeley.
UPDATE: Seems like it's got something to do with this.
If there's one thing LA has over its perpetual friendly rival NYC, it's the "medicinal" marijuana laws. Garfunkel & Oates rub it in the east coast's face in their new video, which features David Koechner and really high (har) production values. Look what an HBO deal can do for the quality of your music videos!
Here's the lastest video from Garfunkel & Oates: This Party Took a Turn for the Douche. If you're wondering what they can do with some cash now that they're working on a show for HBO, this is a pretty good indication. Featuring cameos from fun people such as Sarah Silverman, Tig Notaro, Alia Shawkat and Har Mar Superstar.
