Nasim Pedrad to Create, Write, and Star in Her Own Fox Comedy

Nasim Pedrad might star in her very own Fox comedy. THR reports that Pedrad has signed a talent holding and development deal at the network with the goal of creating, writing, and starring in her own show. "Nasim’s an undeniable creative force in front of the camera and a brilliant writer/producer behind the camera," Fox exec Jonnie Davis said on the news. "We’ve long admired her work on SNL and Mulaney and we think she’ll be hugely valuable to us on the comedy side." In the meantime, Nasim already has a recurring role in the works on the upcoming Fox horror-comedy Scream Queens from Glee co-creators Ryan [...]

Watch Nasim Pedrad's Unaired 'SNL' Sketch "Aziz Ansari Buys a Jacket"

A few weeks ago, Nasim Pedrad was a guest on Conan and shared a short clip from an unaired SNL sketch in which she played her favorite "boner-eraser" role Aziz Ansari. Today, Funny or Die did a wonderful thing and uploaded the entire sketch — titled "Aziz Ansari Buys a Jacket" costarring Taran Killam — which you can watch in full above.

John Mulaney and Nasim Pedrad Talk Leaving 'SNL' for Fox's 'Mulaney'

At TCA over the weekend, former SNLers John Mulaney and Nasim Pedrad got the opportunity to talk about leaving the long-running NBC sketch show to work on the upcoming Fox sitcom Mulaney, which is set to premiere on Sunday, October 5th. Aside from making a joke about how he directly copied Seinfeld, Mulaney went on to describe his intentions behind choosing the more traditional multi-cam format for his show: "I just remember thinking to myself, the type of show I want to do is the type of show that I grew up on. [I thought] it would be really cool to try to do one with my [...]

Breaking Down Each Cast Member's Contribution to 'SNL' Season 39

With SNL's 39th season coming to a close, we're taking a look at the past season with a series of posts examining the highs, lows, and other memorable moments from the past eight months. Here, we look at the performers that make up SNL's current cast, including their overall contributions to the show, memorable roles, relative screen time, and prospects for returning next season.

SNL's 39th season was a crowded one. Record-breaking crowded, even. Six new hires, plus a seventh midseason, rose the total to 17, making the current cast the largest SNL has seen during its entire four-decade run, topping even the infamously bloated 1990-1991 season. That season only had [...]

'SNL' Review: Edward Norton Gets Into Character

Whenever the holiday season begins, a strange vibe settles in at SNL. The weeks blend together as sketches revolve around seasonal themes, with few exciting fresh ideas and a lineup of decent hosts with unmemorable episodes. Fall of last year was no different — Bruno Mars and Louis CK were highlights in what was otherwise a forgettable stretch including Daniel Craig, Christina Applegate, and Jeremy Renner. On the viewer side, this drop in enthusiasm is likely the result of the start-of-season excitement wearing off as we see the cast members fall into a familiar rotation. On the writers' side, perhaps it's a matter of fatigue, or limited options from [...]

Nasim Pedrad Joins Ryan Murphy's Fox Horror-Comedy 'Scream Queens'

SNL alum and Mulaney star Nasim Pedrad just landed new television role. Deadline reports that Nasim has joined the cast of Glee co-creators Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk, and Ian Brennan's upcoming horror-comedy anthology Scream Queens, which got a 15-episode, straight-to-series order last year. Nasim joins previously announced cast members Jamie Lee Curtis, Lea Michele, Emma Roberts, Nick Jonas, Keke Palmer, Joe Manganiello, and Abigail Breslin, and Pedrad will appear in the first installment of the series set to premiere next fall, which "revolves around a college campus that is rocked by a series of murders."

Nasim recently wrapped up her run on Fox's Mulaney, which aired its [...]

Nasim Pedrad Shares Her Unaired 'SNL' Sketch as Aziz Ansari

It turns out that despite the many characters and impressions Nasim Pedrad had during her run on SNL, she wanted to do none of them more than Aziz Ansari. While Nasim did get a chance to very briefly play Ansari in a sketch, on last night's Conan she shared a clip of an unaired sketch that gave her much more screen time as Ansari, an impression she describes as "a real boner-eraser."

'SNL' Firing New Cast Members Displays a Show Still Deeply In Transition

Word has come down this week that SNL cast members Noël Wells, John Milhiser, and Brooks Wheelan have been let go from the show after one season, with Nasim Pedrad also leaving to work as a regular on Mulaney (a move that has long been anticipated) and Mike O'Brien's status currently in talks. Their departures don't come as too huge a shock — as we recapped at the end of last season, the three saw little screen time and had few memorable moments during the season. And while it must come as a disappointment to those actors and their fans, let's not forget that at least a third of everyone [...]

Fox Orders an Additional 10 Episodes of 'Mulaney'

Fox is putting a lot of faith behind comedian and former SNL writer John Mulaney's upcoming multi-cam show Mulaney. THR reports that the network has ordered an additional 10 episodes of the series, totaling the current order to 16 episodes. The move is part of Fox's new approach to ordering shows, in which they've done away with pilot season completely and instead have been giving straight-to-series orders. Mulaney's cast also includes Martin Short, Elliott Gould, Seaton Smith, Zack Pearlman, and SNL cast member Nasim Pedrad, whose future on the NBC sketch show is now up in the air considering the new 10-episode order for Mulaney will tape in [...]

'SNL' Review: Tina Fey Introduces The New Cast

For a show that evolves constantly, SNL does a remarkable job preserving its brand. Despite the changes in the cast, the writers, and the culture it parodies, SNL will always be that live, hip, New York-centered show that puts up a few sketches at the end of the week to try to make you laugh. There's the "Live from New York…" throw line, the theme music, Don Pardo listing off the cast, the host walking out on stage, followed by that predictable pattern of live sketches, videos, musical performances, and the news segment. Critics put down this structure in favor of looser, more inventive sketch show formats, but given SNL's [...]

Nasim Pedrad Looks Back on Her 'SNL' Arianna Huffington Impersonation

SNL alum and Mulaney star Nasim Pedrad was a guest on last night's Late Night, where she and Seth Meyers looked back on how she first got her Arianna Huffington impersonation on SNL — which was largely thanks to Bill Hader getting an eye infection. Watch more from Pedrad's interview below:

Watch a 22-Minute Behind-the-Scenes 'Mulaney' Preview

Mulaney's premiere on Fox is a month away, but in the meantime the network released the above 22-minute preview featuring some clips from the show as well as behind-the-scenes interviews with Mulaney, Lorne Michaels, Martin Short, Nasim Pedrad, Seaton Smith, Zack Pearlman, and Elliott Gould. The preview is heavy on clips of Mulaney's standup and light on clips of what he calls the "throwback sitcom" format, but at least we know now that Andre is acceptably annoying because he's a weed dealer.

Nasim Pedrad Confirms She's Unlikely to Return to 'SNL' Next Season

Many SNL fans have assumed that this past season would be Nasim Pedrad's last due to her new television role on Mulaney, and over the weekend, the SNL player was asked at the Austin Television Festival whether that's true and all but confirmed her departure in her response: "I haven't heard any official word so far, but…as far as I know, I'm in LA now."

Pedrad, who was hired on SNL in 2009, made a name for herself with recurring characters like Shallon and Bedelia and impersonations including Kim Kardashian, Barbara Walters, and Arianna Huffington. She's been attached to SNL writer John Mulaney's pilot [...]

'SNL' Review: Seth Rogen Half-Baked

While watching Seth Rogen host SNL for the third time last weekend, I was reminded of two other three-peat hosts from earlier this season: Paul Rudd in December and Jonah Hill in January. Rudd's episode felt like extended promo for Anchorman 2, with the host failing to capture that lightning in the bottle with cast members that made his previous stints so memorable. Hill, however, seemed to enjoy himself every bit as much as he did his first two appearances.

Seth Rogen, Paul Rudd, and Jonah Hill are, of course, hugely successful alumni from Team Judd Apatow, but their careers have taken diverging trajectories. Rogen and Rudd have [...]
