Alexander Payne Likes That Comedians Don't "Wallow in Heavy-osity"

""I've found that in the past I'm often drawn to people with good comic timing to perform in dramatic parts," the director said. "Because they're not going to drag it — they're not going to wallow in heavy-osity."

Director Alexander Payne on why he casts comedians like Will Forte and Bob Odenkirk in dramatic roles. The two appear in Payne's upcoming drama, Nebraska.

Here's the brand new trailer for Nebraska, director Alexander Payne's upcoming movie that stars Will Forte in his dramatic debut. Forte stars as a guy taking a cross-country trip with his father (Bruce Dern) so his dad can claim a million-dollar sweepstakes prize. Stacy Keach and Bob Odenkirk also star. Nebraska debuted at the Cannes Film Festival this summer to mostly-positive reviews, but it comes to theaters for us non-fancy French film festival attendees on November 22nd.

Joel McHale Will Star in a Softball Dramedy From the Writer of 'Nebraska'

Joel McHale is set to star in The Tribe, an upcoming film "about a Native American high-school girls softball team and the new coach who arrives to helm them," according to the Los Angeles Times. The film be written and directed by Bob Nelson, who wrote the upcoming Alexander Payne film Nebraska starring Will Forte. Both McHale and Nelson worked on the Seattle comedy show Almost Live! before making it big, best known as the show that launched Bill Nye the Science Guy.

Watch Will Forte Get Dramatic in a Clip from Alexander Payne's 'Nebraska'

Saturday Night Live alum Will Forte is set to take a rare dramatic turn in Nebraska, a new movie directed by Oscar-winner Alexander Payne that's set to debut at the Cannes Film Festival in France this week. Here's the first clip from the movie, which also features Bruce Dern and Stacy Keach. Nebraska is in black-and-white and the clip features French subtitles, so don't say I didn't warn those of you who hate black-and-white/other languages.
