The Vine 5 Film Festival: Jackasses, Yokels, *and* Idiots

Vine is a toy from Twitter that challenges users to make the most profound work ever committed to video in exactly six seconds. Or at the very least, challenges comedians to bring a little more laughter into this world. Every Tuesday we showcase five of the funniest short shorts of the past week.

Your RSS feed might be difficult and not show the videos, but trust us – they are there.

The Vine app continues to expand its reach, with none other than POTUS himself singing up. And during Jimmy Fallon's monologue on Friday night, a bit aired where "Barack Obama" failed to grasp the six second maximum [...]

Pretend Time Is Over, Children

Nick Swardson announced via Facebook that his Comedy Central sketch show, Nick Swardson's Pretend Time, will end after its second season. Despite good ratings, he says the show was "too expensive for the network and tough creatively." Not that this is the end for Swardson, who's "developing a new show where I play a ninja." The future cannot come quickly enough.

Nick Swardson On Bucky Larson, Pretend Time and the Critics

Last week I interviewed Nick Swardson about the upcoming season of Nick Swardson's Pretend Time, which premieres this Wednesday, Oct. 5, his stand-up career and, of course, Bucky Larson: Born To Be A Star.

As far as I can tell, the man does not sleep.

Nick Swardson Goes All The Way In Bucky Larson: Born To Be A Star

Nick Swardson is, hands down, one of my favorite stand-ups of all time. As far as I'm concerned, we should all be mailing him personal checks every month as a thank you for bringing Reno 911's Terri into existence. So to see him plowing through something like the Bucky Larson: Born To Be A Star trailer, well, it just strikes me as a deep disturbance in the order of the universe. Co-written by Adam Sandler and produced by Happy Madison, Bucky follows the trials and travails of an Iowa grocery boy as he travels to Hollywood to find stardom after learning his parents were porn stars. [...]

The All-Star Version of the Risk! Podcast Is Chock Full of Famous Comics' Stories

Podcast aficionado Joe Berkowitz already introduced us to the Risk! podcast, hosted by The State's Kevin Allison, but the most current episode is a special one. It's the All-Star Episode, and unlike most of this podcast's episodes, it costs money to download. But only $2, and for that you get stories from Sarah Silverman, Kevin Nealon, Nick Swardson, Marc Maron, Adam McKay, and Kerri Kenney-Silver. Not a bad deal, and a great intro to a Splitsider-approved podcast to boot.

Nick Swardson Is Taking Rob Schneider's Place in 'Grown Ups 2'

It looks like one of the stars of Grown Ups will be missing when the inevitable sequel comes out this summer. Rob Schneider is the only one of the central five characters who isn't returning for Grown Ups 2, and he's been replaced by his fellow Adam Sandler regular Nick Swardson. Swardson will play an alcoholic school bus driver who's the brother of Rob Schneider's character from the original and sports a similar hairstyle.

The reasons for Schneider not being included in the film are unclear. In a radio interview last year, Schneider cited money issues and a scheduling conflict with his CBS sitcom Rob, explaining, "They're doing [...]

Riggle, Posehn, and Nanjiani Catapult To Hell and Back Beyond Great and Into Awesome

Only January and already there's a lock on R-Rated Stop-Motion Animated Comedy of the Year. To Hell and Back, starring TJ Miller and Nick Swardson, just added Rob Riggle, Brian Posehn, and Kumail Nanjiani to its cast, and their roles sound pretty perfect:

Riggle will voice a 20-year-old who is finally growing up. Posehn will play an aging heavy metal fan trapped in the 80s (naturally). And Nanjiani will play “Sal the Demon, an employee in hell.”

Thought experiment: if every viewing of this heavenly movie required you to spend one year in hell, how many times would you see it? More or less than five?

Bucky Larson Generating Serious Razzie Buzz

Though the Razzie Awards are still months away, it seems critics are already heralding Bucky Larson: Born to Be a Star as a near-lock for this year's Worst Picture honor. Man, awards shows really do just eat it up when stars alter their appearance for a role. And please, those actors, always taking projects totally devoid of any artistic integrity just for the Razzie cred. Pathetic. If Bucky Larson does bring home the big prize for horribleness, don't forget that you heard all about it here first, down to the last weak sputter of ejaculate.

Meet The Villains Of The Jesse Eisenberg/Aziz Ansari Action-Comedy 30 Minutes Or Less

Who knew there was something that could make me happier than a photo of Danny McBride brandishing a cross-bow? Turns out, add Nick Swardson to the photo, the whole thing jumps to another level. Really though, I'd laugh watching Swardson take out his recycling (though I'd be screaming at him to do it on roller-skates the entire time), so it's exciting to see him bringing the evil in Jesse Eisenberg and Aziz Ansari's 30 Minutes Or Less. While we've already seen Eisenberg and Ansari's bank robbing style, new images give a better picture of McBride and Swardson's nefarious duo, who kidnap and force the hapless Aziz [...]

Nick Swardson's Bucket List for Kids

Here's a really twisted clip from Comedy Central's Nick Swardson's Pretend Time about following a dying child's bucket list to the letter, no matter what. I love it.

Another 10 TV Pilots the Networks Didn't Pick Up

The fall TV season kicked off this week, with NBC being the first of the major networks to launch new shows. It’s really impressive any time a TV show makes it to air because it’s such an arduous process to even get a pilot episode made, let alone getting a show picked up to series. There are so many steps at which things can completely fall apart when developing a TV show that it’s a wonder so many shows get made at all.

Because most networks develop far more pilots than they need, each network has its own back catalogue of rejected shows that never made it to air. [...]

TJ Miller and Nick Swardson Are Going to Hell in an R-Rated Stop-Motion Comedy

Nick Swardson and TJ Miller have been cast in a stop-motion animated comedy from ShadowMachine, the company behind Robot Chicken and Moral Orel. Hell & Back, which starts shooting in January, is the story of "two best friends who must rescue their pal when he is accidentally dragged to hell." Sounds specific enough to be very risque and very entertaining!

Bucky Larson: Born to Be a Star: A Treatise

I saw Bucky Larson: Born to Be a Star last night at the 12:01 show, and of the eight person audience, two people walked out early. I promise you, it's not that bad. I would, however, like to make a point to mention how much I absolutely love Nick Swardson. He is a monster stand-up, kills it in every peripheral acting role I’ve ever seen, and should, as far as I’m concerned, be right this moment soaking in a champagne hot tub surrounded by beautiful people of whichever gender he prefers. Sadly, and as much as I don't want to acknowledge it, Bucky is not going to help [...]

First Image and Synopsis for Action Comedy 30 Minutes or Less

Here's the first image from 30 Minutes or Less, which stars Jesse Eisenberg, Danny McBride, Nick Swardson and Aziz Ansari. What's it about? Well, here's the official synopsis, too. Look for it in theaters on August 12th. In the action-comedy 30 Minutes or Less, Nick (Jesse Eisenberg) is a small town pizza delivery guy whose mundane life collides with the big plans of two wanna-be criminal masterminds (Danny McBride and Nick Swardson). The volatile duo kidnaps Nick and forces him to rob a bank. With mere hours to pull off the impossible task, Nick enlists the help of his ex-best friend, Chet (Aziz Ansari). As the clock ticks, [...]
