'Silicon Valley,' 'Transparent,' 'Girls,' and More Win Golden Globe Nominations

The 2015 Golden Globe nominations were announced this morning, and the shows up for Best Comedy include HBO series Girls and Silicon Valley, Netflix's Orange Is the New Black, Amazon favorite Transparent, and surprise CW hit Jane the Virgin. The Lego Movie also got a nom in the Best Animated Film category, while Bill Murray, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Lena Dunham, Ricky Gervais, Jeffrey Tambor, Louis C.K., and more all got acting nominations.

The Oscar Nominations Mostly Ignore Comedy This Year

The Academy just released their Oscar nominations, recognizing the best in film from 2012, and the list of pretty light on comedies this time around. Silver Linings Playbook, director David O. Russell's romantic comedy-drama was the only comedy-ish film to receive a lot of recognition (although there are plenty of laughs in non-comedy Best Picture nominees Django Unchained and Argo). Silver Linings was nominated for Best Picture, Best Director (Russell), Best Actor (Bradley Cooper), Best Actress (Jennifer Lawrence), Best Supporting Actor (Robert DeNiro), Best Supporting Actress (Jacki Weaver), and Best Adapted Screenplay (David O. 'Parks and Rec,' 'Brooklyn Nine Nine,' and 'Girls' Among This Year's Golden Globe Nominations

The Golden Globe nominations were announced earlier this morning, bringing with them a few predictable choices and a few surprises. In the Best TV Comedy category, award show dominator Modern Family was joined by The Big Bang Theory, Girls, Parks and Recreation, and the freshman season of Andy Samberg's Brooklyn Nine-Nine, while the categories for TV comedy acting showed some love to Amy Poehler, Jason Bateman, Andy Samberg, and Lena Dunham for their performances this year. 2013 wasn't the best year for comedy movies and that's painfully obvious in these nominations, though Julia Louis-Dreyfus did get a nom for her performance in the romantic comedy Enough Said. '30 Rock' and 'Arrested Development' Are Among This Year's SAG Nominees

The Screen Actors Guild nominations were announced this morning, and aside from the predictable love for Veep, The Big Bang Theory, and Modern Family, the actors on both 30 Rock's farewell season and Arrested Development's experimental Netflix run got recognized for their work in 2013. Winners will be announced at the live awards show on January 18th at 8:00PM on TNT and TBS; see below for the complete list of comedy-related nominees.
