Ellen Burstyn Joins the Cast of Amy Poehler's NBC Pilot 'Old Soul'

Old Soul, the NBC comedy pilot Amy Poehler co-created and is producing, is continuing to add big names to its cast. Deadline reports that Oscar winning actress Ellen Burstyn has joined the cast, which also includes Natasha Lyonne, Nick Thune, Fred Willard, Rita Moreno, and Greta Lee.

The pilot, co-created and produced by Poehler, Josh Bycel, and Jonathan Fener, follows cleaned-up party animal Nadia (Lyonne) who has a business caring for the elderly and identifies more with them than with people her age. Burstyn is playing Nadia's "earthy lesbian" cancer survivor aunt who takes care of her while Nadia takes care of her friends. Standup [...]

Rita Moreno Joins Amy Poehler's NBC Pilot 'Old Soul'

Recent SAG lifetime achievement recipient and EGOT winner Rita Moreno has joined Amy Poehler's NBC pilot Old Soul. According to Deadline, Moreno will star opposite Natasha Lyonne as one of her elderly clients in the tailor-made role of Rita, "a flamboyant, larger-than-life Broadway vet who has been happily married to her writing partner/husband for over 50 years." David Wain is also signed on to direct the Old Soul pilot, which is the first project to get a pilot order from Amy Poehler's 3-year development deal with NBC. Fred Willard Joins Amy Poehler's NBC Pilot 'Old Soul'

The cast of Amy Poehler's David Wain-directed pilot about a retirement home keeps getting better. After news of Natasha Lyonne, Rita Moreno, and Nick Thune joining Old Soul's lineup, TV Line reports that Fred Willard — who has a recurring role on Modern Family as Phil's Dad — has signed on to play Hector, "a packrat and Broadway songwriter who has been married to Rita (Rita Moreno), his writing partner, for 50 years." Willard most recently appeared in Anchorman 2 and will show up in Andy Daly's new Comedy Central series Review in March.

Tim Meadows, Nick Thune, and Krysten Ritter Cast in NBC Comedy Pilots

Pilot season is in full swing, and NBC's comedy selections are continuing to round out their casts. According to Deadline, SNL alum Tim Meadows has been cast in David Caspe's pilot Marry Me starring Casey Wilson and Ken Marino. He'll be playing Kevin, one of Annie's (Wilson) two gay dads. Over on the pilot Old Soul, produced and co-created by Amy Poehler, actor/comedian/musician Nick Thune has signed on to star opposite Natasha Lyonne as her "roommate and friend who shares her offbeat sense of humor."
