'Inside Amy Schumer,' 'Jane the Virgin,' and 'Last Week Tonight' Win Peabody Awards

The 74th annual Peabody Awards' entertainment category recipients were announced today, and among the winners are a few new and returning comedy series. Ahead of its season 3 debut next week, Comedy Central's Inside Amy Schumer earned an award while HBO's Last Week Tonight and CW's "immaculately conceived" breakout hit Jane the Virgin also won awards for their work this year. The Peabody Awards will be handed out in New York on Sunday, May 31st; check out the full rundown of the comedy-related winners below:

Colbert, Parks and Rec, and Portlandia Win Peabody Awards

The winners of the prestigious Peabody Awards were announced this morning, with a few of our very favorite comedies snagging trophies for their shelves. No, I didn't know they commonly handed out awards to non-news organizations either, but hey, Game of Thrones won one as well, so who the hell knows what their standards are. The awards ceremony will be on May 19th in New York and televised for the first time on the Pivot network.

Lorne Michaels, D.L. Hughley, 'Girls,' and 'Louie' Win Peabody Awards

The winners of the 2013 Peabody Awards, given for excellence in radio and TV were just announced, and Lorne Michaels, Louie, Girls, and D.L. Hughley's Comedy Central special The Endangered List all scored prizes. Lorne Michaels's award is a rare achievement in that the Peabody Awards rarely recognize individuals and give the majority of their accolades to TV shows or specials, but if anyone deserves it, it's the guy who simultaneously produces SNL, 30 Rock, Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, and Portlandia. Portlandia was one of last year's Peabody winners alongside Parks and Recreation and The Colbert Report, two rare top-notch TV comedies that Lorne Michaels doesn't [...]
