Watch a Teaser Trailer for the Paul Feig-Produced CGI 'Peanuts' Movie

Last year, it was announced that comedy writer/director Paul Feig (Freaks and Geeks, Bridesmaids) is producing a 3D CGI animated Peanuts movie, bringing Charles Schulz's beloved comic strip characters to the big screen, and here's a new teaser trailer for the film, featuring Charlie Brown and Snoopy in our first glimpse at what the new CGI versions of these characters looks like. As announced previously, the movie is coming out November 6, 2015, and Steve Martino (Horton Hears A Who!) is directing from a script co-written by Craig Schulz (Charles Schulz's son), Bryan Schulz (Charles's grandson), and Cornelius Uliano (Bryan's writing partner). Feig tells USA Today, "Snoopy will not [...]

The Lost Projects of John Hughes

One of the most prolific comedy filmmakers of all-time, you can’t really compare John Hughes’s dominance of big screen comedy in the 1980s to the work of anyone modern. Even Judd Apatow, who’s pumped out hit films at a consistent rate for the better part of the last decade, doesn’t work as fast as Hughes, who was cranking out two or even three popular comedies a year throughout his 80s heyday, with many of these films going on to become iconic classics.

Part of the reason John Hughes was able to rapidly pile up projects is that he was an incredibly fast writer who didn’t care much for rewriting. [...]

Paul Feig on Producing the 'Peanuts' Movie: "It's My 'Star Wars'"

"This one is really exciting for me. I like to say it’s my Star Wars. To get the opportunity to help guide that along is really a thrill … Charles Schulz’s son and grandson and writing partner are writing the script so we’re being very slavish to the original material. I’m of the mind that we don’t need to modernize these characters. I liked what these characters represented and the tone of what they had … We are finding ways to bring in modern technology too, but in a way that doesn’t break the purity of it."

Paul Feig Is Overseeing the New Animated 'Peanuts' Movie

It was announced last year that 20th Century Fox is making a new CGI 3D movie based on Charles Schulz's comic strip Peanuts, and today, Deadline reports that Bridesmaids director and Freaks and Geeks creator Paul Feig is overseeing and producing the film.

A November 6, 2015, release date has been set for the film, which will be directed by Steve Martino (Horton Hears A Who!, Ice Age: Continental Drift) and the script was written by Craig Schulz, Bryan Schulz, and Cornelius Uliano. Craig and Bryan are Charles Schulz's son and grandson, respectively. "Growing up, Peanuts was my Star Wars,” said Feig. “Charles Schulz’s characters influenced everything [...]

The 20 Specials of Christmas: A Charlie Brown Christmas

You know A Charlie Brown Christmas Special. Why recap it? Even if you haven't watched it beginning to end, almost everyone has culturally absorbed its strangely prescient evaluations of consumerism and religion during the holiday. Charlie's wimpy tree. Linus's Jesus speech. Snoopy's Christmas decorating competition. You're familiar.

But you're familiar because it works. It hits on the religious and the secular and the ornamental and the personal and the performative. The humor in the briefer-than-you-remember special works because is real. The children may be too precocious but they capture the specific melting pot of sadness and hope that is Christmas.

I mentioned Linus’s Jesus speech. It’s easily the special’s [...]
