Apatow Produced Pee-Wee Herman Movie to Start Filming Very Soon

While at an event promoting the Disney animated series TRON: Uprising, Paul Reubens updated Collider on the new Judd Apatow produced Pee-Wee Movie:

As far as I know, it’s getting shot very soon. I actually wasn’t supposed to talk about it, initially. I was talking about it in this very veiled, secretive way, saying, “Oh, I wish I could talk about it.” A journalist figured out that it was Judd Apatow that I was talking about because my writing partner was in the audience and he’s written so much with Judd. So, it got leaked about six months to a year before it was supposed to.

Pee-Wee Herman Takes a Page from the Melissa Leo Playbook for His For Your Consideration Ads

It's the middle of Emmy voting season, so For Your Consideration ads are plastered all over trade mags everywhere. Including this one from Pee-Wee Herman, perfectly mimicking/mocking the Melissa Leo FYC ads that ended up not at all sabotaging her at the Oscars. Will the faux fur work for Pee-Wee as well? Who knows, but he does wear it well.

Watching Pee-Wee's Big Adventure For the First Time

I guess I just never got Pee-Wee Herman. As a kid his show kind of creeped me out. I didn't and still don't really get what's funny about him. The idea of a wide-eyed, unflappably optimistic kid in a grown-up's body, overcoming all obstacles with his infectiously silly energy, is a great bit in theory, but in execution I think Pee-Wee always rang false (and, as I said, a little terrifying) to me. I think for a bit like that to hold up, you need to commit to the character in a way Pee-Wee just never did. There was always something external, something dark and cynical about it that [...]

Paul Reubens Says His Pee-Wee Herman Movie Has a Director, Funding, and Will Hopefully Shoot in 2014

Pee-Wee Herman's long-awaited return to the big screen may finally be happening. When speaking to The LA Times to promote The Smurfs 2 yesterday, Paul Reubens revealed that the upcoming Pee-Wee movie has funding, a finished script, and a director. He declined to reveal who said director is but said it's likely the film will shoot next year. Reubens also spoke vaguely about a new TV show, which The Times says is "potentially though not necessarily an update on Pee-wee’s Playhouse." He didn't give any details beyond saying an announcement is imminent and the show will be on the air in 2014, adding, "Short of something unforeseen like the studio [...]

The Jeff Rubin Jeff Rubin Show: Director and Star of 'Beauty Is Embarrassing' – Pee Wee's Playhouse Art Director Documentary

Even if you’ve never heard Wayne White’s name, you’ve almost definitely enjoyed his work. Wayne was a designer on shows like Pee-Wee’s Playhouseand Beakman’s World, as well as music videos like Smashing Pumpkins’ Tonight Tonight. Wayne has since developed a second career in the fine arts world and is the subject of the wonderful new documentary Beauty is Embarrassing.

This week on The Jeff Rubin Jeff Rubin Show you will hear from both Wayne and the film’s director, Neil Berkley. We discuss the influence of Pee-Wee, what shows are continuing it’s legacy today, and what message Wayne implanted in the unsuspecting brains of children.

Did Anyone Order a Pee Wee's Big Adventure Porn Parody?

Behold, the trailer for Pee-Wee's XXX Adventure: A Porn Parody from Vivid Entertainment. While somehow technically safe-for-work, this trailer is most emphatically not safe for anyone wishing to spare their precious childhood memories from being sprayed uncontrollably with dirty, dirty whipped cream. I'm going to go scrub my eyeballs and ear canals with sandpaper-wrapped Q-tips now.

Pee-Wee's Familiar Adventure

I can distinctly remember watching Batman Returns as an 11-year old kid and being confused by the fact that Pee-wee Herman was throwing a baby into the Gotham City sewage system. The brief role of the Penguin’s father at the beginning of the film was played by Paul Reubens and not his grey suit-wearing alter ego. But, for my money, there was no difference. I was aware of the fact that Pee-wee wasn’t a real person. But it still didn’t make sense to see Reubens as anything other than the eternal man-child that made him famous.

After springing into worldwide fame in 1981 with the premier of HBO’s [...]

The Pee Wee Herman Show Coming to HBO Next Year

Pee-Wee Herman Movie to Shoot in the Fall

Paul Reubens was on Kimmel to promote the new Tron animated series, so parents can recommend it to their kids, I guess. But in the clip above, Kimmel does cut to the chase and gets an update on the long-rumored Apatow produced Pee-Wee movie. As he says, the script is done and they're looking to shoot in September, October, November, which are all soon months. Though, as you can see in the clip below, Reubens admits to frequently lying in interviews, so maybe this Pee-Wee movie isn't happening. Or maybe, the story about lying isn't true. Maybe, nothing is true. But probably everything is, hooray!

The First Draft of the Upcoming Pee-Wee Herman Movie Is Done

Here's Paul Reubens on the fate of the in-development Pee-Wee Herman movie that Judd Apatow is producing: "Paul Rust and I just turned in a draft to Judd last week. He’s bringing such an interesting side to it. He’s constantly having us talk about and address the emotional core of Pee-wee Herman. It’s adding a dimension I never had before. Judd, if you’re reading this, I think it’s ready to green light!"

Judd Apatow: How Pee Wee Herman is Like Bart Simpson

Judd Apatow, who's producing a new Pee Wee Herman movie, had this to say about whether or not we'll see what Pee Wee has been up to for the last 25 years: "No, it exists in its own world but it’s very imaginative. I think that’s one of the best characters of all time for me. It’s like W.C. Fields… It’s more like The Simpsons where in every episode he grew up in a different decade."
