The Best of Stephen Colbert's Hobbit Week

Last night, America's #1 biggest Tolkien geek Stephen Colbert wrapped up "Hobbit Week," four nights of The Hobbit-related programming with guest appearances by the movie's cast and crew on The Colbert Report. Entitled "The Pundit: Or Colbert and Back Again," Colbert's Hobbit coverage involved him interviewing Sir Ian McKellen, Martin Freeman, Andy Serkis, and Peter Jackson, wielding an elvish blade and smoking from a wizardly pipe. Flight of the Conchords' Bret McKenzie Cast in The Hobbit Because Why the Hell Not?

Bret McKenzie, being from New Zealand, had a small role in Lord of the Rings: Return of the King as a very pretty elf with very pretty hair. I assume that most New Zealanders had at least roles as extras in the trilogy, the country being so small and full of elfin-looking people. Stephen Colbert visited the set of the Hobbit movies in New Zealand last year and allegedly filmed a cameo in either the second or third film in the trilogy. About Colbert, Peter Jackson told [...]

Stephen Colbert Has a 'Hobbit' Cameo

Tolkien superfan Stephen Colbert will have a cameo in Peter Jackson's upcoming The Hobbit movie trilogy, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Colbert spoke about flying to New Zealand to visit the set last year in an awesome, in-depth Playboy interview last week, in which he also hinted at having a cameo in the movies. The Hollywood Reporter confirmed shortly thereafter that Colbert will, in fact, have a role in one of the films, but it's still not known whether it's a significant role or just a background acting gig. The Colbert cameo won't be in the first installment, The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, which comes out this December. [...]
