'The Office's Dan Sterling Is Developing a CBS Comedy Produced by Phil Lord and Chris Miller

A day after announcing its new deal with Will Arnett's production company Electric Avenue, CBS might be adding another new multi-cam show to its lineup. Deadline reports that the network has given a put-pilot commitment to a series by Dan Sterling, who has worked as a director, writer, and producer on The Office, The Sarah Silverman Program, The Daily Show, and King of the Hill. The currently untitled pilot follows "an accommodating, well-meaning, and all-too-compliant man, and a powerful, outspoken, embattled woman who form a new friendship and partnership by which they jointly strive to revolutionize themselves and their lives." Lego Movie directing duo Phil Lord and [...]

Directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller Say Every One of Their Movies "Sounded Like a Terrible Idea"

"Everything we’ve ever done has been riding on low expectations. Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs? What a terrible idea. Doing 21 Jump Street as a movie is a terrible idea. The LEGO Movie sounds like a terrible idea. If people think [22 Jump Street] is a good idea, we’re screwed."

- Director Chris Miller in an interview with Collider quelling expectations for 22 Jump Street by explaining that all of his and directing partner Phil Lord's movies sound awful on paper.

How 'The Lego Movie' Manages to Keep a Bunch of Plates Spinning All at Once

While you certainly don't need me to tell you that the number one movie in the country three weeks running is a success, The Lego Movie seems to have struck a Pixar-esque chord in even the most skeptical corners of the internet. A certain amount of goodwill was always going to be garnered by the sheer novelty of seeing many people's favorite childhood toys (and I would suspect a disproportionate amount of people writing about pop culture on the internet) animated to life, but that same goodwill seemed potentially doomed to be destroyed by those shouting that we were just being suckered into paying for a 90-minute [...]

Phil Lord and Chris Miller Are Down for a 'Clone High' Movie

When Will Forte fielded Reddit AMA questions back in December, he addressed the idea of a reunion of the short-lived animated MTV series Clone High, saying "I hope one day we'll get another crack at Clone High so we can answer these unresolved questions. I loved that show and thought it ended too soon!" Now, Clone High co-creators Phil Lord and Chris Miller have added to that sentiment in a recent interview with Grantland:

Would you ever consider doing a [Clone High] movie?

Lord: We’ve been talking about it a little bit. We would just have to convince Viacom that it was worth reopening that world.

Miller: [...]

Ice Cube and Directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller Will Be Back for '21 Jump Street 2'

The 21 Jump Street sequel is starting to take shape. Collider has an interview with producer Neal Moritz, in which he reveals that Ice Cube will be back as the police captain, with original directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller attached to return too. It was previously announced that Jonah Hill and the first movie's screenwriter, Michael Bacall, are working on the script. Hill and Channing Tatum are expected to return in the lead roles with a summer 2014 release in mind.

Here's all the non-boring stuff Moritz said about the sequel:

It leads off where we ended the last film and our guys are going to college [...]

Will Forte Gets Patriotic in the Trailer for His New Fox Show 'The Last Man on Earth'

There are lots of new shows debuting on the major networks this fall, but none look as delightfully strange and different as Fox's midseason selection The Last Man on Earth, which is produced by 22 Jump Street and The Lego Movie duo Phil Lord and Chris Miller and stars SNL's Will Forte as the planet's seemingly only man on a quest to find another human.

Phil Lord and Chris Miller Reportedly in Talks to Direct 'Ghostbusters III'

On Tuesday, original Ghostbusters director Ivan Reitman announced that he was stepping down as director of the upcoming sequel, but he assured fans that he was helping the production find an equally perfect director. According to Nikki Finke, Lego Movie and 21 Jump Street directing duo Phil Lord and Chris Miller are reportedly in talks to replace Reitman, which is a hopeful update that Ghostbusters III still has a chance of being great. No word on how this will affect Lord and Miller's desire to do a Clone High movie, but directing Ghostbusters seems like a fair excuse.

Bill Lawrence Says He's "Been Trying to Reboot 'Clone High' for Years"

"I’ve been trying to reboot [Clone High] with the other two creators for years. The two guys I created that with are the two biggest young guys in Hollywood right now, Chris Miller and Phil Lord. They wrote and directed Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs and they did 21 and 22 Jump Street and The Lego Movie. They’re big hot shots now. The three of us always talk about trying to get Clone High back. We’d have to find a way to purchase and excise it from MTV. It still kills me when I see those episodes. They’re subversive and ridiculous."

-Bill Lawrence, who co-created MTV cult hit Clone [...]

There's Already a Sequel to 'The Lego Movie' in the Works

The new animated comedy The Lego Movie is coming out this weekend, but the studio behind it has already started work on a sequel. The Wrap reports that Jared Stern (The Internship, Mr. Popper's Penguins) has been hired to co-write the sequel with an unnamed writer. "Advanced market research" says that the movie will be a big hit when it comes out this weekend, and it's been receiving unanimous critical acclaim so far. Directed by Phil Lord and Chris Miller (21 Jump Street, Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs), The Lego Movie features a voice cast that includes Chris Pratt, Will Ferrell, Elizabeth Banks, Will Arnett, Nick [...]

Terry Crews to Star in Andy Samberg's Fox Pilot; Phil Lord and Chris Miller Will Direct

Actor and former NFL player Terry Crews has just been added to the cast of Andy Samberg's untitled Fox pilot, according to Deadline. Phil Lord and Chris Miller, the team behind 21 Jump Street and Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, have also joined up to direct the episode. The addition of these three adds a lot of heat to what's already looking like one of the season's most promising pilots. Crews, who starred in TBS's Are We There Yet? and recurs on The Newsroom, received three pilot offers before choosing the show, and Lord and Miller are highly sought-after feature directors who rarely have time to work [...]

Phil Lord and Chris Miller Turned Down Directing 'Ghostbusters III'

Ghostbusters III is hitting more roadblocks. Jeff Sneider at The Wrap is reporting that directing team Phil Lord and Chris Miller (The Lego Movie, 21 Jump Street) have turned the project down. Last month, Nikki Finke reported that the duo was in talks for the job, and Sneider says they were the studio's top choice and that the studio is now meeting with other directors.

Ivan Reitman, who directed the first two Ghostbusters movies, was originally set to direct the third, but he stepped down following the death of original Ghostbuster Harold Ramis. With Ghostbusters III once again without a director nearly two decades into [...]

The 'Lego Movie' Sequel Gets a New Director

The Lego Movie already had a sequel greenlit before the first one even came out, and the second film has now found a director. Deadline reports that Chris McKay, who's directed a ton of episodes of Robot Chicken and Moral Orel and also served as the first Lego Movie's animation co-director, has been hired to direct the sequel. Phil Lord and Chris Miller, who directed the initial film, are staying on as producers. The new movie is being written by Jared Stern (The Internship, Mr. Popper's Penguins) and Michelle Morgan (Girl Most Likely). Plot details are being kept under wraps.

Fox Orders 'Last Man on Earth', Created by and Starring Will Forte, to Series

Fox has given a series order to Last Man on Earth, a single-camera comedy created by and starring Will Forte, the network announced today. The show follows two strangers after the apocalypse who must put aside their differences to ensure the survival of the human race.

Last Man on Earth is being executive produced by Phil Lord and Chris Miller, who are also directing the pilot episode and had a big hit this weekend with their latest film, The Lego Movie. Lord and Miller first worked with Forte on their cult hit 2002 MTV animated comedy Clone High, and they have since used him as a voice actor in [...]

ABC Buys Comedy Written by and Starring Kristen Schaal

Daily Show correspondent Kristen Schaal and former Daily Show writer Rich Blomquist (who's also her husband) have sold a sitcom to ABC, according to Deadline. The two will write American Monster, about "a small-town misfit who becomes an unlikely celebrity when she goes on trial for the murder of the century," who will be played by Schaal. The show will be produced by Phil Lord and Chris Miller, who have already sold two other pilots this season – the Johnny Depp-produced Torched, and the Will Forte-created Last Man on Earth.
