Paul F. Tompkins Talks About Being Prank-Called by an Ice-T Impersonator

Last month, comedian Paul F. Tompkins, who frequently plays Ice-T on his podcast and Comedy Bang! Bang!, received a phone call from someone impersonating Ice-T, and the real Ice-T played audio of the conversation on his own podcast. It turns out that Tompkins and the Ice-T impersonator actually had a 25-minute conversation and that it was edited down to five minutes for the podcast.

Here's Tompkins telling Nerdist more about the phone call:

[Ice-T] just launched a podcast, and within a week of his podcast launching, I got an email from my agent saying Ice-T would like to have you as a guest on his [...]

Topics, which began as an independent podcast last summer, features frequent collaborators Michael Ian Black and Michael Showalter having a straight-faced pretentious conversation about a different subject each week. In addition to Topics, Earwolf also recently added Jimmy Pardo's long-running podcast Never Not Funny and debuted [...]

Listen to an Ice-T Impersonator Prank Call Paul F. Tompkins

If there's only one thing Paul F. Tompkins will be remembered for, surely it's his spot-on Ice-T impression. Recently, a performer named Rocwell prank called Tompkins posing as Ice-T, and the real Ice-T played a recording of the call on his new podcast Final Level. It's a hilarious and adorable listen, and Tompkins even gives the impostor some killer podcasting advice. Click through to hear the clip.

'The Andy Daly Podcast Pilot Project' Lives Up to Lofty Expectations

In the ever-expanding universe of comedy podcasts, few people are held in higher esteem than Andy Daly. Whenever I’m asked to provide a recommendation for someone looking to become better acquainted with the overwhelming world of improvisational podcasts, I suggest one of Daly's classic appearances on Comedy Bang! Bang! Those episodes deftly showcase the pinnacle of comedy podcasting while, at the same time, serving as a fairly accurate barometer of an individual’s comedic sensibility. It’s possible you may enjoy other comedy podcasts if you don’t find Daly’s frequent appearances on Comedy Bang! Bang! amusing; it’s just not probable. The news that Daly would attempt the intricate transition from guest [...]

Inside 'The Thrilling Adventure Hour' Podcast with Ben Acker and Ben Blacker

The LA-based monthly short-form comedy and variety show The Thrilling Adventure Hour is entering its ninth year in March, and as a self-proclaimed “new-time podcast in the style of old-time radio,” the show is ever-gaining in popularity and expanding into media beyond its live show roots. Last fall, creators Ben Acker and Ben Blacker released a graphic novel adaptation of the show, bringing their idiosyncratic sensibility that regularly mixes vaudeville humor, the tropes of old genre serials, arch wordplay, and catchphrase humor all wrapped in good-natured whimsy to the page and realizing characters like Sparks Nevada, Marshal on Mars and the time-traveling, Nazi butt-kicking Amelia Earhart in a [...]

Last October, the two entertainment prodigies decided to unlock the golden gates of Hollywood to John and Jane Q Public, and reveal their previously confidential industry expertise by launching Hollywood Handbook, a podcast on the Earwolf Network that aims to help listeners achieve their showbiz dreams. In three short months, Hollywood Handbook ascended from the new podcast on the block to weekly must-listen status with its endearing mix of subtle charm and subversive comedy. After exchanging countless emails [...]

Paul F. Tompkins Says 'The Pod F. Tompkast' Will Return This Year

Paul F. Tompkins hasn't put out a full new episode of his beloved comedy podcast, The Pod F. Tompkast, since November of 2012, but it looks like the show will be coming back at some point in 2014. Tompkins tweeted over the weekend, "And know that The Pod F. Tompkast WILL return this year. We're headed back into the studio very soon!" Launched in 2010, each episode of The Pod F. Tompkast features Tompkins doing sketches, making a phone call to friend/standup Jen Kirkman, and addressing the audience with stream of consciousness monologues over composer Eban Schletter's piano playing.

Although Paul F. Tompkins hasn't put out a new episode of that [...]
