Last night during the MTV Movie Awards, Aubrey Plaza ran onstage and tried to grab Will Ferrell's "Comedic Genius award" out of his hands during his acceptance speech (at the 1:53 mark in the above video). She had the title to her upcoming movie The To Do List written in marker on her chest, and quickly returned to her seat after about ten seconds of trying to take Ferrell's award. MTV is claiming that the stunt was unplanned and that Plaza was removed from the premises after the incident, but she did appear in the audience later in the show so that could be bullshit. Movieweb reports that discussions are taking place for a sequel to the best collegiate a cappella comedy of 2012, Pitch Perfect. Universal has yet to make an official announcement on Pitch Perfect 2, but one of the first movie's stars, Skylar Astin told Movieweb that he and fellow cast member Rebel Wilson have each taken meetings with the studio about a potential sequel. The first Pitch Perfect , written by 30 Rock's Kay Cannon and also starring Anna Kendrick, Brittany Snow, Anna Camp, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, and Adam DeVine, was released in October and performed well with critics and at the box office. So, for those of you who [...]
Remember when Rebel Wilson was on Jimmy Kimmel Live promoting Bachelorette and she was talking about the movie and, like, how she worked with Kirsten Dunst and how that was so exciting because Bring It On is her favorite movie that she just asked Kirsten if she remembered its most famous parts and Kirsten did? That was awesome! Also awesome, as she explains below, was her childhood love of Kris Kross and that documentary Best in Show.
Good news: Jenny Slate has just joined the already amazing-sounding CBS pilot Super Fun Night, written by and starring Rebel Wilson and produced by Conan O'Brien. Slate will play Helen-Alice, the "super-smart best friend and roommate who thinks the pinnacle of fun is staying in on Friday nights to eat pizza and watch dorky movies." Ha, ha, totally, that definitely isn't what I'm planning to do tonight. Only dorks eat pizza and watch movies. Pfffffff. Snort. Heh. So, Jenny Slate, huh?
The Critics' Choice Movie Awards were held last night, and Judd Apatow was honored with the "Louis XIII Genius Award," which is sponsored by the cognac brand Louis XIII and not the famed French king. It's an absurdly-lofty name for this particular award, but there are a hell of a lot people who are fewer qualified for it than Apatow. Pitch Perfect and Bridesmaids star Rebel Wilson presented Apatow with the statue, introducing him by reading the following speech off a piece of paper:
Critics' Choice Louis the XIII Genius Award speech, written by Judd Apatow. But don't say it's written by Judd …. OK. Maybe I wrote this. World [...]
Two Bridesmaids alums, actress Rebel Wilson and co-writer Annie Mumolo, just sold their own movie projects to major studios. Deadlinebroke the news that Rebel Wilson sold a pitch to Universal for an untitled comedy that she will write, produce, and act in. No plot details are known at this time. Wilson is on the rise after appearances in Bridesmaids, Bachelorette, and most recently, Pitch Perfect. In the second Bridesmaids-related movie sale of the week, Kristen Wiig's writing partner Annie Mumolo, with whom she scored Oscar nominations for Bridesmaids' screenplay, sold a movie too. The project, based on the life story of Joy Mangano, follows a single mom trying [...]
This seems fun. It will undoubtedly be compared to Bridesmaids because that's how things work but it looks a lot more like Very Bad Things mixed with The Hangover. The cast is solid: Rebel Wilson playing against type as the proper bride, Lizzy Caplan as the sarcastic one (the brunette), Isla Fisher as the wild party girl (the redhead), and Kirsten Dunst as the perfect one (the blonde). Also, there appears to be a Lizzy Caplan-Adam Scott rekindling, which hopefully takes up 60% of the movie. Maybe the twist will be that Scott and Caplan's characters have to cater the wedding and this is actually the long-rumored Party Down movie.
Did you know that Rebel Wilson went to law school but decided to be an actor during a malaria hallucination? Or that her parents were professional dog showers? Or that a pilot she wrote and stars in was produced by Conan O'Brien and picked up by CBS? Sike, you probably didn't know that last one, because it just happened. Super Fun Night stars Wilson as "one of three geeky female pals who challenge themselves to have, yes, 'super fun' each Friday night." You heard it here, funcomfortable is next year's adorkable.
Bridesmaids and Pitch Perfect star Rebel Wilson has just been tapped by MTV to be the host of the network's 22nd annual MTV Movie Awards next year. The ceremony is set to air on April 14th and sees the trend of MTV using a comedian to host the awards show continue. Russell Brand hosted last time and was preceded by Jason Sudeikis, Aziz Ansari, Andy Samberg, Mike Myers, and Sarah Silverman before him. Prior to that, the MTV Movie Awards were in a weird era where they hired people like Jessica Alba and Lindsay Lohan to host. Rebel Wilson, who hails from Australia, has been keeping especially busy [...]
Why are they playing "Get Ur Freak On" in the background? The song's awesome and we always need people to tell us what to get on, but there has to be a more recent freak command-based tune. If not, what do we have Nicki Minaj for? For that British monster voice thing? Pssh. Still, this is great and at some point Rebel just yells for no reason. [Via]
ABC is looking to re-pilotSuper Fun Night, after CBS passed on the Conan O'Brien produced comedy a few weeks ago. Written and starring Rebel Wilson, the show follows three nerdy female friends as they aspire to have super fun Friday nights. One of those nerdy females was the wonderful and hilarious Jenny Slate; however, it's very possible that the show will recast everyone but Wilson in the move. To better fit with ABC's other comedies, the show will likely switch from a multi-camera to single-camera structure. It’s also being reported that USA is in talks to pick up Rebounding, the Will Forte as a widower sitcom that [...]
