Don't Miss the 'Reno 911!' Reunion on Tonight's '@midnight'

If you love and miss Comedy Central's Reno 911! you can't miss tonight's episode of @midnight, which features @midnight's own co-executive producers Thomas Lennon and Ben Garant alongside their former 911! costars Kerri Kenney-Silver, Carlos Alazraqui, and Cedric Yarbrough all competing in character. In the meantime, here's a quick sneak peek with Wiegel, Junior, and Dangle playing a game of "Lesser Known Police Codes."

Talking to Tom Lennon About Playing the Villain on NBC's 'Sean Saves the World'

Best known for starring in and co-creating comedy nerd favorites like The State and Reno 911!, Tom Lennon is acting on a different kind of show this season: a multi-cam network sitcom on primetime TV. He's playing the villain on Sean Saves the World, NBC's new Sean Hayes comedy, which just premiered last week. As Hayes's dastardly mustachioed boss Hunter, he's one of the most deliberately unlikable and evil characters on primetime TV.

I recently had the chance to talk to Tom Lennon about Sean Saves the World, playing an bad guy, and the Baywatch movie he's writing with Ben Garant.

Thomas Lennon is Co-Directing Robert Ben Garant's 'Baywatch' Movie

Robert Ben Garant will be joined by his partner in crime, fellow The State/Reno 911! alum Thomas Lennon, as his co-director for a comedy remake of the cheesy 90s lifeguard soap Baywatch.  This is the silliest project Lennon and Garant have ever worked on, and keep in mind that Lennon wrote “Porcupine Racetrack” and the duo was previously developing a “leprechaun action comedy.”

Thomas Lennon, Ben Garant, and the Lasting Legacy of 'Reno 911!'

The team of Thomas Lennon and Ben Garant are a match made in comedy entertainment heaven. As members of the comedy troupe and MTV television show The State, these two created (along with Kerri Kenney-Silver) and starred in the ever popular, Reno 911! After six seasons and the Reno 911!: Miami film, the duo has written blockbuster films, a book about writing said blockbuster films and yet still finds time to appear on television and in film.

Five years after the show concluded, the complete series is now available on DVD. I spoke to the pair about the series' character and sketch inspirations and shared experiences with police [...]

Tom Lennon Cast in Victor Fresco's Pilot; Plus, NBC Offered Maya Rudolph a Part

Tom Lennon of Reno 911! and The State fame has been cast in an untitled NBC pilot created by Victor Fresco (Andy Richter Controls the Universe, Better Off Ted), and starring Sean Hayes, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Additionally, we reported earlier that NBC offered a part in the show to Maya Rudolph, whose current series Up All Night looks to be ending its run soon. The multicamera pilot follows a guy (Hayes) struggling to parent his teenage daughter, who just moved in, all while dealing with a temperamental new boss (Lennon) at an online retail company. Linda Lavin (Alice) and Echo Kellum (Ben and Kate) also star [...]

Netflix Is Trying To Bring Back Reno 911!

You know that scene in The Miracle Worker where Helen Keller finally understands sign language and is spinning around and flailing with pure confusion and joy while Anne Bancroft loses her shit? That's where I'm at after reading the news that we might have new Reno 911! episodes in our future, if Netflix has anything to say about it. Vulture reports that the show's producers Michael Shamberg and Stacey Sher have been in talks with Netflix about the Reno's possible return, though co-creators Thomas Lennon, Robert Ben Garant, and Kerri Kenney-Silver haven't signed haven't signed anything yet. But that's just a formality, right? Because it's coming [...]

Thomas Lennon and Ben Garant Look Back at 'Reno 911!' and a Possible Distant-Future Reunion

Entertainment Weekly ran an interview with Thomas Lennon and Ben Garant yesterday all about their beloved Comedy Central series Reno 911!, from the "Naked Jamaican" idea that didn't pan out to the movie sequel that never happened to which sketch is now used in an LA police training video. At the end of the interview they were both asked about the possibility of bringing back the show in some form — Lennon says they've had casual talks with Netflix in the past — and here's what Garant had to say of the idea:

It's not a hard show to do. There's a reunion that you can see [...]

The Lost Roles Interview with Tom Lennon

Lost Roles is a weekly column exploring "what might have been" in movie and TV comedy as we take a different actor, writer, or comedian each week and examine the parts they turned down, wanted but didn’t get, and the projects that fell apart altogether. This week, I interviewed Tom Lennon, star and writer of beloved comedy shows like Reno 911! and The State and an accomplished screenwriter and author (with Ben Garant) of the hilarious, no-bullshit screenwriting how-to book Writing Movies for Fun and Profit. Every actor has their fair share of close casting calls, and Tom Lennon is no exception. He was nice enough to chat [...]
