John Oliver Took Over 'The Daily Show' Again Last Night

Last night's Daily Show guests were all involved with Jon Stewart's new movie Rosewater, so to keep the interviews from getting weird (and so Stewart could run out for his interview over on Late Show), the always dependable replacement John Oliver was summoned through a magical teapot to take over hosting duties one more time. Watch Letterman's interview with Stewart below:

Jon Stewart Talks 'Rosewater' and His Future at 'The Daily Show' with 'New York' Magazine

New York magazine has a lengthy and fantastic interview with Jon Stewart out this week that's a must read for Daily Show fans and longtime Stewart viewers who are curiously anticipating the release of his directorial debut Rosewater. The interview covers everything from the making of Rosewater to Stephen Colbert's 50th birthday party (Stewart calls the attending crowd a "love bomb") to Stewart's brush with NBC's Meet the Press to how much longer he plans to host The Daily Show.

On the risk of making his first movie:

But is it a risk at this point in my life? Yes, it’s very different from the forgiving [...]

Watch John Oliver Take Over for Jon Stewart on 'The Daily Show'

Last night was Jon Stewart's final episode of The Daily Show for three months, while he takes his first-ever hiatus from the fake news program to direct his first movie, the geopolitical prison drama Rosewater. Here's his heartfelt goodbye at the end of the episode, which summer fill-in host John Oliver interrupts to measure the set for his new redesign. Oliver takes over Monday.

Check out the rest of Stewart's last Daily Show for a while below, which features him explaining how Rosewater grew out of a terrible situation in which journalist Maziar Bahari was detained and brutally interrogated in an Iranian prison for 118 days as a result [...]

Jon Stewart Finds Moments of Levity in a Horrifying Ordeal in 'Rosewater'

In early 2013, when Jon Stewart announced his first-ever hiatus from The Daily Show to direct a film about a journalist tortured in an Iranian prison, fans did a collective double take. Stewart’s directing? And it’s a drama? Though the move was unexpected, perhaps it shouldn’t have been. It wasn’t all that long ago that think piece after think piece was written about the hope of Stewart going serious. Much of this started after his famous appearance on Crossfire (ten whole years ago!) and lasted for years afterward. Directing Rosewater may not have been the turn toward seriousness that Stewart’s fans were demanding, but it’s a good fit for [...]

The Trailer for Jon Stewart's Directorial Debut 'Rosewater' Is Here

While John Oliver was hosting The Daily Show last summer, Jon Stewart was hard at work on his first movie Rosewater based on the book Then They Came for Me by Maziar Bahari. The first trailer was released today, and the film stars Gael Garcia Bernal, Shohreh Aghdashloo, Golshifteh Farahani, Kim Bodnia, Nasser Faris, Haluk Bilginer, Jason Jones, and Dimitri Leonidas and is set for a limited release on November 7th.

Tonight Is Jon Stewart's Last 'Daily Show' for Three Months

Longtime Daily Show host Jon Stewart is taking his first-ever hiatus from the late night fake news series after tonight's episode. The show will be Stewart's last for three months, during which he'll be directing his first movie, the geopolitical prison drama Rosewater starring Gael García Bernal, which he also wrote. Tonight's episode does not have a guest, but will presumably feature an appearance from veteran correspondent John Oliver, who will be stepping in as the show's temporary summer host beginning Monday. Jon Stewart is set to return to work on September 3rd, probably with a big ol' director's beard.

Jon Stewart on Whether He'll Be at 'Daily Show' for the Presidential Election: "I Do Not Know"

As part of his press tour for his new film Rosewater, Jon Stewart was forced to visit enemy territory over at CNN this weekend, where he had a perfectly awkward conversation with Christiane Amanpour about The Daily Show's many jokes at CNN's expense as well as his near-future plans at Comedy Central and the possibility of becoming a "regular" journalist: "I can pretty confidently state that I will not have my own 'Room of Situations.'"

After Three Months Away, Jon Stewart Returns to 'The Daily Show' Tonight

After his June 6th show, Jon Stewart left The Daily Show for a three month hiatus to direct his first movie, the geopolitical prison drama Rosewater, but he's finally back tonight. This is the longest break Stewart has taken from the series since he started hosting it in 1999. Temp host John Oliver did an amazing job and will be missed now that he's just a correspondent now, but it'll be nice to see Stewart back behind the desk. Expect John Oliver to pop up in tonight's episode for a bit where he pretends to be upset with Jon Stewart for taking the show away from him.
