Bo Burnham, Eric Slovin, and Leo Allen Make This Year's Black List

The Black List, an annual ranking of the best-liked unproduced screenplays from a survey of studio and production execs, was released today, and as usual, the list is full of comedies. This year's list featured a few scripts from known comedians, like Eric Slovin and Leo Allen's Superbrat and Bo Burnham's Gay Kid and Fat Chick, as well as comedies from new writers.

"The Script Pile" is a biweekly column on Splitsider that takes a look at the screenplays for high-profile movie and TV comedies that never made it to the screen.

After Comedy Central abruptly canceled Reno 911! in the fall of 2009, co-creators/stars Tom Lennon and Ben Garant spun around and sold a new show to NBC in just a couple months' time. Following the cancelation, Garant said this in an interview:

"We had a great run on Reno — 87 episodes and a movie. Not too shabby … Our next show is gonna be better, and it's gonna have a lot of the same faces from Reno … To [...]

Some Comedy Screenplays Made the 2012 Black List

The 2012 Black List was just announced yesterday, an annual ranking of the year's most popular unproduced screenplays, as voted by hundreds of film executives and compiled by Franklin Leonard. Each year, the list helps to get hard-working writers' names out there and to push some movies into production. Movies that have been in the past after first appearing on the Black List include Juno, Lars and the Real Girl, and 500 Days of Summer.
