Simon Rich Shares His Favorite Never-Aired 'SNL' Sketch on 'Late Night'

Former SNL writer and creator of upcoming FXX show Man Seeking Woman Simon Rich was a guest on last night's Late Night, where he shared his favorite never-aired sketch written with John Mulaney and Marika Sawyer — a Baby-Sitters Club parody starring Fred Armisen as the club's newest 65-year-old Filipino member. If "Second Chance Theatre" ever returns to Late Night, this sketch should be at the top of the list for consideration.

How to Be Simon Rich

"So many times I’d write a sketch set at, say, a marriage counselor’s office and I was so naïve and unsophisticated working in television that I would literally have the opening line of dialogue be, 'Well, here we are at the marriage counseling center.' When you’re coming from the world of print, it’s not obvious that the characters can just walk by a sign that says 'marriage counseling center.'” – The thoroughly impressive Simon Rich talking to Co.Create about how he is able to write for so many different mediums and how, when he first started at SNL, he was at one point  fallible.

SNL's Simon Rich Has a Terrible Diet

SNL writer and novelist Simon Rich told Grub Street everything he ate for one week, and unsurprisingly he managed to make his food diary as funny an entertaining as everything else he writes. A taste: I eat mostly bomb-shelter food. It's like I'm surviving a nuclear apocalypse that only I'm aware of. My writing partners, Marika Sawyer and John Mulaney, they joke that if I were 10 years old they could call child-protective services to rescue me, but I'm 26, so there's nothing they can do, because technically I'm a grown-up and I have only myself to blame for living this way.

Simon Rich Reimagines a Classic Joke for 'The New Yorker'

Author, former SNL writer, and creator of the upcoming FXX show Man Seeking Woman Simon Rich wrote a humor piece in The New Yorker called "Guy Walks Into a Bar" that's a dark yet sweetly hilarious take on the classic 12-inch pianist joke. Just in case you need some extra encouragement, Conan O'Brien tweeted it yesterday and called it "the funniest thing I've read in a long time."

FX Orders a Pilot Created by 'SNL's Simon Rich, Produced by Lorne Michaels

Former SNL writer Simon Rich has sold a half-hour comedy pilot to FX, with Lorne Michaels attached to produce via his company Broadway Video, Deadline reports. The pilot is called Man Seeking Women, and it's based on Rich's book, The Last Girlfriend on Earth. Jonathan Krisel (Portlandia) will be directing the pilot, which is described as a sweet, surreal look at dating in New York City. Rich, a former Harvard Lampoon editor, became one of the youngest-ever writers for Saturday Night Live when he was hired at age 23 in 2007. He spent four seasons there before transitioning into a writing job at Pixar. The Last Girlfriend [...]

Simon Rich Gives God a Girlfriend in The New Yorker

This week's New Yorker Shouts & Murmurs is a very funny piece by SNL's Simon Rich about how Genesis might've gone if God was dating someone. Women be stoppin' omniscient entities from creatin' majestic universes, and all that.

Simon Rich Takes On Google
