Stephen Colbert Reacts to His Sister's Congressional Loss

Stephen Colbert's sister Elizabeth Colbert-Busch lost her congressional bid to Mark Sanford in a South Carolina special election Tuesday night. Here's Stephen Colbert talking about the upsetting loss publicly for the first time (albeit in character) on his show last night and turning his back on his home state and politics, in general.

Stephen Colbert Surprisingly Endorses His Sister for Congress

Stephen Colbert's sister, Elizabeth Colbert-Busch, threw her hat into the ring for an open Congress seat in South Carolina last month, and here's Colbert talking about it for the first time on his show last night. Hopefully, if Elizabeth Colbert-Busch gets elected, she'll be able to keep her brother from speaking before Congressional subcommittees again.

Stephen Colbert's Presidential Exploration Is Over and He Wants His Super PAC Back, Dammit

Well, Stephen Colbert's brief campaign for President of the United States of South Carolina has finally come to a close after Herman Cain shockingly didn't win the South Carolina primary. The good news is that Colbert can get his Super PAC back where it belongs once more, in his very own hand-knitted stars-and-stripes billfold. Unless interim supervisor Jon Stewart has anything to say about it. Dun dun dun! Read Stewart's message to PAC members below, in which he advises Colbert to "take a long walk off a short go-f%¢#-yourself." War of the Comedy Central fake news hosts!

Stephen Colbert Just Wants to Help You, South Carolina

The will-they-won't-they dance between Stephen Colbert's Super PAC and the South Carolina Republican primary continues. In a guest editorial in SC newspaper The State, Colbert explained that he was ready to help the GOP cover the cost of the presidential primary in exchange for them to simply name it “The Colbert Super PAC South Carolina Republican Primary." Sounds reasonable to me! Now, though, the Republicans have decided not to fund the primary after all, leaving it with the burden of the cost on the state's counties and with a very boring name. Colbert's offer still stands, though: "I’ve already filled out the check, and to prove it’s [...]

Stephen Colbert's Sister Loses Congressional Bid

Stephen Colbert's sister, Elizabeth Colbert-Busch, announced she was throwing her hat into the ring for a congressional seat in South Carolina back in January. The special election was held yesterday, and Colbert-Busch, the Democratic nominee, lost to Republican Mark Sanford. Stephen Colbert broke character throughout the election cycle to campaign for and support his sister. "I'm willing to, you know, break the jewel of my own creation to try to do something for her, " he told CNN a couple months ago. "I'm not worried about what it would do to me or my show to try to help her as myself – not as my character, to help [...]

The People of South Carolina Want Stephen Colbert to Lead Them

Stephen Colbert announced his intentions to win a recently-vacated Senate seat in his home state of South Carolina on his show last week, and now, a new poll reveals that he's the top choice for South Carolina residents. Public Policy Polling  released the poll, which says 20% of South Carolina voters support Colbert, with the states Congressmen Tim Scott and Trey Gowdy in second and third place with 15% and 14%, respectively. The voters, though, won't be deciding who wins the position. That choice is in the hands of Governor Nikki Haley, but hopefully, this new data will sway her to make the right choice and [...]

Cain/Colbert Received a Paltry 1% of the South Carolina Primary Vote

So much for the two-headed Colbert-Cain super-candidate hydra. Despite a crowd at their joint rally that qualified as the biggest crowd yet of the 2012 campaign, only 6,324 out of about 600,000 voters threw their support behind Cain in the South Carolina Primary — and it's uncertain how many of those people meant to symbolically support Colbert and how many just like pizza and creepy, slow-burning smiles. Does this mean Colbert's exploratory committee has met its end? Will he seize back the power of his Super PAC from Jon Stewart's cold, cash-filled hands? Or will he somehow interpret the minuscule number of voters as a sign [...]

Watch Stephen Colbert's Speech at His Sister's Congressional Campaign Fundraiser

Here's a rare out-of-character appearance by Stephen Colbert as he introduces his sister Elizabeth Colbert Busch at a fundraiser for her South Carolina congressional campaign with a funny speech. I think he's only helping her out so he can butter her up to do a "Better Know a District" segment on The Colbert Report.

Oprah Promises to Reveal “The Real Stephen Colbert” This Sunday

Oprah recently traveled to South Carolina to conduct an exclusive interview with Stephen Colbert in his home state for her show Oprah's Next Chapter. It airs this coming Sunday at 9/8c on Oprah's TV network OWN, which is apparently still a thing. She's teasing the interview up like it's going to present Stephen Colbert in an entirely different light, promoting it with phrases like "you've never met the real Stephen Colbert until now." Obviously, Oprah knows that Stephen Colbert is playing a fictional character on The Colbert Report, but how great would it be if she'd only seen bits and pieces of the show 'cause she's such a busy lady, and [...]

Is Stephen Colbert About to Announce His Bid for the Presidency?

Oh, it is so ON. After the news broke that he beat Jon Huntsman in a hypothetical South Carolina poll, Stephen Colbert is promising a "major announcement" on his show tonight. Now, I'm not saying he's going to run for president because I told him to, but isn't he? You're welcome, America. And yes, Stephen, I would consider a job as your campaign manager.
