The Lego Movie is getting a spin-off all about Will Arnett's Batman. THR reports that Warner Bros. is fast-tracking the sequel, which will be directed by Lego Movie animation supervisor Chris McKay and written by Seth Grahame-Smith, with original Lego Movie team Phil Lord and Chris Miller signed on as producers. The spin-off is currently slated for a 2017 release after the next Lego film Ninjago in September 2016 and the Lego Movie sequel, which is expected to debut sometime after 2017.

Greta Gerwig to Star in 'How I Met Your Mother' Spin-Off

In some of the weirdest casting news in a while, EW reports that indie film darling Greta Gerwig is set to star in How I Met Your Dad, the upcoming spin-off series to CBS's hit show How I Met Your Mother. Gerwig will play Sally, who slowly tells the tale of meeting her partner in flashback, and is described as “a female Peter Pan who has never grown up and has no idea of where she’s going in life. She has just figured out that she has nothing in common with her husband of less than a year. A break-up is inevitable, but Sally will find a [...]

Vince Gilligan Says a Saul Goodman 'Breaking Bad' Spin-Off Is "Indeed Worth Doing"

With Breaking Bad set to end its run this summer, we previously reported that creator Vince Gilligan and writer/producer Peter Gould are developing a comedy spin-off based around Bob Odenkirk's slimeball lawyer Saul Goodman. In an interview with Empire out today, Gilligan spoke at length about a Saul Goodman spin-off, saying that he'd like to see it happen but that it probably won't live up to the hype of Breaking Bad. Here's everything Vince Gilligan said about the project today:

Well, you never assume lightning is going to strike twice. Having said that, I think a Saul Goodman show would be a great deal of fun, and [...]

'The Farm' and 10 Other Spin-offs that Almost Happened But Didn't

News came in this week that NBC isn't picking up The Farm, the spin-off of the network's departing show The Office based around Rainn Wilson's character Dwight Schrute and his wacky family's wacky beet farm. While it seems odd that NBC cast and filmed a pilot for The Farm (that'll be airing as a standalone episode of The Office later this season) and made it so into the process only to get cold feet, this is a fairly common occurrence in the comedy world. Some of the most successful shows of all-time have been spin-offs, but for every Frasier, there's a show about Dr. Crane's bar bros Norm [...]

The Lost 'Simpsons' Spin-offs

When The Simpsons debuted 25 years ago as a series of shorts on The Tracey Ullman Show, it was hard to expect that it would become one of the most successful and longest-running franchises in movie and TV history. While The Simpsons spun off from (and quickly eclipsed) The Tracey Ullman Show, it seems a little odd that, given the show’s rampant popularity, we have yet to see a spin-off from The Simpsons, itself. The show has occasionally mocked the concept of TV spin-offs – most notably in the Troy McClure-hosted “Simpsons Spin-Off Showcase” – but that doesn’t mean Fox and the Simpsons creative team haven’t attempted to use [...]

AMC's 'Better Call Saul' Now Has Its Very Own Song

Ahead of the February premiere of AMC's Breaking Bad spin-off Better Call Saul, the network released the above music video over the weekend for "Better Call Saul: The Song." The song was written by show creators Vince Gilligan and Peter Gould and performed by country singer Junior Brown, and the video features the first real peeks at what we can expect from the spin-off next year.

Chris Lilley's Character Jonah Takalua Is Getting His Own Show

Summer Heights High creator and star Chris Lilley's spinoff Ja'mie: Private School Girl has only just premiered in the US, but he's already announced that another character from Summer Heights will front a new show. Lilley tweeted a confirmation of a BBC story that Lilley character Jonah Takalua will be getting his own show.

Takalua, a rowdy 14-year-old schoolboy, was expelled from Summer Heights High at the end of that series, and sent to live with his extended family in Tonga. The new series will find "Jonah in the midst of island life and experiencing the familiar frustrations of a bored teenage delinquent." The series is due to air in Australia and the UK in [...]

6 Lost Spin-Offs of 'The Office' Revealed

When The Office producers Greg Daniels and Mike Schur were putting together Parks and Recreation in 2007, it was originally supposed to be a spin-off of The Office. They instead opted to abandon that plan and make the show its own thing, but the duo revealed some of the options they considered for an Office spin-off to TV Guide this week, and some of them are pretty crazy. Here are six ideas they thought about and then discarded:

  • A comedy inspired by the 1970s PBS documentary An American Family, which followed the upper-middle class Loud family of California. Daniels recalls, "We were going to do a [...]

Vince Gilligan Would Love to See a Saul Goodman 'Breaking Bad' Spin-Off (Join the Club)

Bob Odenkirk's Saul Goodman is one the best characters on television like ever and it seems like Breaking Bad's creator Vince Gilligan understands that. "I would love to see a Saul Goodman spin-off show when it’s all said and done,” Gilligan told Entertainment Weekly. He continued:

“I think that would present itself pretty nicely, storywise. While Breaking Bad is by design a show that is finite and limited in its scope — it’s a story of transformation that cannot go on forever — I think a Saul Goodman show could have great legs. I love the idea of a lawyer who will do anything to avoid going to court. [...]

Sony Is Reportedly Developing a 'Married…with Children' Spin-Off

Fox's hit sitcom Married… with Children, which ran for 11 seasons on the network from 1987-1997, might be getting its own spin-off. According to a report by E! News, Sony Television Pictures is currently considering a series based around the present-day life of Bud Bundy played by David Faustino. Talks are early and no deals are yet in place, but at Katey Sagal's Hollywood Walk of Fame ceremony this week, Christina Applegate said they're "going to do something with Dave maybe. I don't know if it will be in character … I don't know if I'm allowed to speak on that at all. So I should probably stop [...]

There Might Be a 'Modern Family' Spin-off Starring Rob Riggle

Modern Family may be getting its very own spin-off. Deadline reports that ABC and studio 20th Century Fox have discussed several options for a spin-off to the multi-Emmy-winning series, including one starring Rob Riggle as his Modern Family character Gil Thorpe. Modern Family executive producers Paul Corrigan and Brad Walsh would be likely to write and run the new series.

Riggle appeared in two episodes last season, playing an abrasive real estate rival to Ty Burrell's Phil. It's been a big week for Riggle; it was announced last week that he's playing two major roles in the upcoming Dumb and Dumber sequel.

Seth Rogen and Jason Mantzoukas Talked About Making a Dirty Randy and Rafi Movie Together

In Seth Rogen's two guest spots on FX's The League, he and actor Jason Mantzoukas have proven to be a great team. Rogen has exceled at playing despicable librarian/pornographer Dirty Randy, best friend to Mantzoukas's own dirtbag character Rafi. In an interview with Complex today, Rogen reveals that he and Mantzoukas have had non-serious talks about spinning their characters off into their own story. Here's a clip:

Interviewer: By the way, the Dirty Randy movie needs to happen. Rogen: It does! Mantzoukas and I were actually just talking about it. I saw him on Saturday night. We were like, "We should just do something that focuses on our two characters." [...]

'Fraggle Rock' Is Getting a Doozers Spin-Off

Despite being off the air for 25 years, the production company behind Yo Gabba Gabba! and The Jim Henson Company think it's a perfect time for a Fraggle Rock spin-off. The series will focus on the Doozers, who are the creatures who build the Fraggle Rock caves. It's just like how Family Matters took a character that serviced the Perfect Strangers and gave her a series. This comes after word that a Fraggle Rock film is in the works. Here's a clip of the Doozers singing a slightly disconcerting song about knitting. Can't wait to see the sung shenanigans of some industrious, rotund, green imps.
