Comedy Central's animated show TripTank might get its own spin-off series. THR reports that the network is currently developing a spin-off from duo Sean Donnelly and Alessandro Minoli that will be an animated series based on their TripTank series Jeff & Some Aliens, which follows Jeff (Brett Gelman) and "three extraterrestrials who are sent to Earth to study the world's most average guy to evaluate whether humanity and the planet should be destroyed." TripTank executive producers Alex Bulkey and Corey Campondonico will also serve as EPs on the spin-off. Additionally, Donnelly and Minoli have a second animated/live-action hybrid in development at CC called The Amazing Danny, which [...]
Fox's hit sitcom Married… with Children, which ran for 11 seasons on the network from 1987-1997, might be getting its own spin-off. According to a report by E! News, Sony Television Pictures is currently considering a series based around the present-day life of Bud Bundy played by David Faustino. Talks are early and no deals are yet in place, but at Katey Sagal's Hollywood Walk of Fame ceremony this week, Christina Applegate said they're "going to do something with Dave maybe. I don't know if it will be in character … I don't know if I'm allowed to speak on that at all. So I should probably stop [...]
Modern Family may be getting its very own spin-off. Deadline reports that ABC and studio 20th Century Fox have discussed several options for a spin-off to the multi-Emmy-winning series, including one starring Rob Riggle as his Modern Family character Gil Thorpe. Modern Family executive producers Paul Corrigan and Brad Walsh would be likely to write and run the new series.
Riggle appeared in two episodes last season, playing an abrasive real estate rival to Ty Burrell's Phil. It's been a big week for Riggle; it was announced last week that he's playing two major roles in the upcoming Dumb and Dumber sequel.
In Seth Rogen's two guest spots on FX's The League, he and actor Jason Mantzoukas have proven to be a great team. Rogen has exceled at playing despicable librarian/pornographer Dirty Randy, best friend to Mantzoukas's own dirtbag character Rafi. In an interview with Complex today, Rogen reveals that he and Mantzoukas have had non-serious talks about spinning their characters off into their own story. Here's a clip:
Interviewer: By the way, the Dirty Randy movie needs to happen. Rogen: It does! Mantzoukas and I were actually just talking about it. I saw him on Saturday night. We were like, "We should just do something that focuses on our two characters." [...]
Despite being off the air for 25 years, the production company behind Yo Gabba Gabba! and The Jim Henson Company think it's a perfect time for a Fraggle Rock spin-off. The series will focus on the Doozers, who are the creatures who build the Fraggle Rock caves. It's just like how Family Matters took a character that serviced the Perfect Strangers and gave her a series. This comes after word that a Fraggle Rock film is in the works. Here's a clip of the Doozers singing a slightly disconcerting song about knitting. Can't wait to see the sung shenanigans of some industrious, rotund, green imps.
