ABC Cancels 'Cristela,' Renews 'Fresh Off the Boat' and 'Black-ish,' and Orders 'Dr. Ken' and 'Muppets' Revival

A bunch of comedies have just been canceled, renewed, and ordered over at ABC. THR reports that the network has canceled Cristela Alonzo's freshman comedy Cristela, renewed Fresh Off the Boat and Black-ish for a second season, and ordered three new comedies to series: Ken Jeong's semi-autobiographical comedy Dr. Ken, a Dan Savage-produced family sitcom called The Real O'Neals, and the single-cam mockumentary-style Muppets revival. ABC is expected to announce one more comedy order sometime today. In addition, ABC also handed out season renewals to The Goldbergs, Modern Family, and The Middle.

ABC Gives Full Season Orders to 'The Goldbergs' and 'Trophy Wife'

ABC is doubling down on a couple of its new sitcoms. The networks has ordered extra nine episodes of both The Goldbergs and Trophy Wife, giving them a full 22-episode season. Rebel Wilson's Super Fun Night, meanwhile, has been given another four episodes. Baseball sitcom Back in the Game didn't receive any extra episodes, effectively canceling the series when its 13-episode run ends.

The Goldbergs has been doing well so-far this year at building an fanbase while Super Fun Night has struggled to maintain the audience of its lead-in, Modern Family. Trophy Wife, which debuted with virtually no advertising, hasn't done great in the ratings, but had a fairly good critical [...]

ABC announced a bunch of changes last night, including some renewals, cancellations, and new series pickups. In the comedy sphere, freshman shows Trophy Wife and Mixology were both given the axe, while renewals were handed out to The Goldbergs, The Middle, and awards juggernaut Modern Family. New shows that have been picked up include Selfie from Suburgatory creator Emily Kapnek, romantic comedy Manhattan Love Story, and a musical fairy tale-themed comedy called Galavant. The fall TV season doesn't kick off for two more weeks, but ABC has gone and uploaded three of their new comedies to Hulu early so that you can take an early look. The first episodes of Trophy Wife, The Goldbergs, and Back in the Game are up now, while ABC's fourth new fall comedy, Rebel Wilson's Super Fun Night, is the only one that hasn't made viewable.
