It follows a jazz pianist turned private eye who becomes embroiled in a murder investigation that spins out of control and leads him down paths – romantic and otherwise – [...]

Talking to Matt Piedmont About 'The Spoils of Babylon' and 'Saturday Night Live'

What began as a joke Matt Piedmont thought of in a bookstore became the IFC miniseries The Spoils of Babylon, which he co-created and co-wrote with Andrew Steele. Inspired by the epic miniseries of the ‘80s, Spoils has an equally epic cast to match, with Kristen Wiig, Will Ferrell, Tobey Maguire, Val Kilmer, Haley Joel Osment, and a Carey Mulligan-voiced-mannequin. I recently got the chance to talk to Piedmont about his inspiration for The Spoils of Babylon, directing material he wrote, and writing for Saturday Night Live.

Poehler's show, Parks and Recreation, is also hitting a big milestone this week with its 100th episode set to air. Poehler co-scripted the episode with the series' co-creator/showrunner Mike Schur.

A handful of new comedies are also set to debut this week. There's IFC's new '80s miniseries parody, The Spoils of Babylon, which was executive [...]

'The Spoils of Babylon' Review: Kristen Wiig Is the New Queen of 70s Soaps

IFC's Funny Or Die-produced epic miniseries The Spoils of Babylon premiered its first installment last night, and so far it's received mixed reviews from critics. While we'll have to wait until all six episodes air to conclusively judge, the first two episodes both have enough hits (and misses) to get a good feel for what we can expect from former SNL writers Matt Piedmont and Andrew Steele's newest collaboration since 2012's Casa de Mi Padre. Here are three takeaways from the beginnings of this playfully nostalgic, time sweeping, and star-studded saga that's found the perfect home alongside Comedy Bang! Bang!, The Birthday Boys, and Portlandia.
