'They Came Together': Beating a Dead Horse with Efficiency and Spite

Made by smart, talented comedy people and starring smart, talented comedy people, They Came Together is a dumb movie. It's built on dumb ideas and executed as dumbly as possible, and that's the point. Slickly directly by David Wain and starring Amy Poehler and Paul Rudd, They Came Together is a self-assuredly dumb parody of the romantic comedy, intent on skewering the genre's worst instincts mainly by reproducing them in a biting tone dripping with mockery. To be clear, this movie doesn't give romcoms a good-natured roasting — it's straight up mean. Nearly every scene features a clever riff on the familiar beats of a romcom formula, and even when Wain's absurdist sensibility closest [...]

David Wain Talks 'They Came Together,' 'Superjail,' and The State Reuniting

Voicing the lead character on a returning animated series, preparing for the theatrical release of a new romantic comedy spoof, announcing the reunion of a groundbreaking comedy group, and keeping very hush-hush about a long-awaited project. These are just a few of the things that writer, director, actor, and comedian David Wain has been up to. I chatted with Wain about Superjail! (Season 4 premieres June 15th at 11:45 p.m.), his next movie They Came Together, The State reuniting for Tenacious D's comedy festival, and how to talk to your children about your dirty sense of humor.

Rudd, Mantzoukas, McBrayer, Marino, and Kenan Play World's Greatest Pick-Up Game

How much fun is this picture? So much fun! It's from the set of They Came Together and is the absolute best. Whoever is in charge of costume design for the movie deserves 12 Oscars. Of course, Jack McBrayer would wear a full cardigan and oversized khakis; of course, Ken Marino would wear camo cargo shorts; of course, Jason Mantzoukas would have a knee brace. With these plus the photos of Paul Rudd and Amy Poehler running through leaves, They Came Together is the most photogenic film in recent history. Check out more images below, one of which might feature a prosthetic penis. Can you spot it? [[...]

Exciting Castings! Jonah Hill Joining 'Django Unchained' & Jason Mantzoukas Joining 'They Came Together'

The cast for David Wain and Michael Showalter's romantic comedy parody (or moc-rom-com) They Came Together is filling out pretty awesomely with Paul Rudd, Amy Poehler, and Max Greenfield already onboard. Now, The League's Jason Mantzoukas has been added to play Rudd's best friend, a perfect role for him to be the type of maniac we expect.

Also, it was announced that Jonah Hill will be joining the cast of the already in production Django Unchained. This is a bit odd considering its production is far enough along that the film already has a trailer (below). Previously, Hill had been eyed for a larger role [...]

David Wain and His Parodies of Exuberance

There are many ways to go about parodying a form, however from Mel Brooks’ smug send-ups to Nathan Fielder’s biting critique of the types of non-fiction programming available on modern TV, most of these attempts hardly come from a place of love. With Brooks and his ilk such as the Zucker/Abraham team, nothing is treated as too sacred to be made a mockery of with a oft-insensitive joke. Fielder is so mean-spirited in his treatment of the laymen he claims to attempt to be helping that my tricks-averse girlfriend cringed her way through one episode of Nathan For You with me before shooting me a look of severe disapproval and [...]

Watch the Trailer for 'They Came Together', Starring Amy Poehler and Paul Rudd and Directed by David Wain

One of the most anticipated comedy films of 2014 is They Came Together, which reunites the Wet Hot American Summer gang to goof on romantic comedies. Here's the brand new trailer for the movie, which stars Amy Poehler and Paul Rudd, was directed by David Wain, was co-written by Wain and Michael Showalter, and features one hell of a supporting cast.

"AWW!" – You While Looking at These Photos of Paul Rudd and Amy Poehler on the Set of 'They Came Together'

This picture from the set of They Came Together is as sweet as something Bobby Newport's Sweetums would produce. Are we serious with this leaves throwing?!? Are they the happiest people in the galaxy?!? Look at those grins! That's what we wake up every morning for, those grins. Below see pictures of them running gleefully through said leaves, holding hands like two people who just got hands for the first time and are super excited about it, and smoochin'. Bobby did always seem to have a thing for Leslie. If I was Ben, I don't think I'd take that job in DC anymore. [Via]

'New Girl's' Max Greenfield to Schmidt Up 'They Came Together'

Max Greenfield will play Paul Rudd's younger brother in the David Wain romantic comedy satire, They Came Together. Earlier this year, Wain directed an episode of the New Girl so one can only assume he caught a look at Greenfield's thoroughly impressive Jewish abs and knew he had to cast him in one of his movies.

Paul Rudd, Amy Poehler, and David Wain Share Their Favorite Rom-Coms

"Annie Hall is pretty amazing. A lot of the Woody Allen ones are pretty great, but I also love Defending Your LifeLost in America. Albert Brooks has some — Albert Brooks had a series of movies back-to-back that rivaled just about anything."

-Paul Rudd, in a Vulture piece in which he, Amy Poehler, Ellie Kemper, Jason Mantzoukas, and writer/director David Wain, all from the soon-to-be-released romantic comedy satire They Came Together, rattle off their favorite rom-coms.

David Wain's 'They Came Together' Has a Super Funny Poster

Director David Wain's new movie, They Came Together, is our most anticipated comedy film of 2014, and Buzzfeed just debuted a poster for the movie, a rom-com parody starring Paul Rudd and Amy Poehler, that's packed with jokes and some out of context quotes from the website Deadline. They Came Together premieres at the Sundance Film Festival later this month but doesn't have an official release date yet.

Check out the first clip from the movie, the full-sized poster, and a statement about the film from David Wain below (via Buzzfeed):

Ed Helms Is Keeping Busy

Before heading back to start filming the new season of The Office, Ed Helms will be spending his summer shooting roles in two upcoming movies. The first is They Came Together, a David Wain-directed/Wain and Michael Showalter-penned movie in which he'll be starring with Amy Poehler and Paul Rudd. He'll play "Eggbert, which is Poehler’s character’s love interest and accountant in this twisted take on the romantic comedy." It sounds like it has almost too many charming people involved, doesn't it?

The second movie will be We’re The Millers, a comedy starring Jennifer Aniston and Jason Sudeikis. He'll play "Brad, who is Sudekis’ boss and who may be [...]
