'This Is the End' and 'Anchorman 2' Earn MTV Movie Award Nominations

MTV unveiled their list of Movie Awards nominees this morning, and because MTV is fond of including a bunch of silly categories like "Best Shirtless Performance" and "#WTF Moment," the comedy world had a much bigger presence on the list than the typical awards show. Both This Is the End and Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues scored four nominations, including for cameo scenes from the Rihanna and the Backstreet Boys (This Is the End) as well as Anchorman's Tina Fey, Amy Poehler, and Kanye West. The Best Comedic Performance category has only one lady — Melissa McCarthy for The Heat — paired with Jason Sudeikis (We're the Millers), [...]

Watch Seth Rogen and Jay Baruchel in the Short Film that Inspired 'This Is the End'

If you're planning on seeing Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg's This Is the End this weekend, you may not know that it was based on the 2007 short film, "Jay and Seth Versus the Apocalypse." Embedded above is the trailer for the unreleased short film that Rogen starred in with Jay Baruchel, which quickly became a viral hit. Rogen and Goldberg wrote the script with Jason Stone, who directed. They used the short to shop around This Is the End to studios in order to get the movie made but had to change the title because, according to Goldberg, "Steven Spielberg and Fox made Robopocalypse and because of [...]

Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg Aimed for an NC-17 with 'This Is the End'

Seth Rogen and longtime writing partner Evan Goldberg are making their directorial debut with the apocalyptic comedy This Is the End, which comes out next week, and the two revealed today that they were aiming for an NC-17 rating. The movie, which stars Rogen and pals James Franco, Jonah Hill, Jay Baruchel, Danny McBride, and Craig Robinson as fictional versions of themselves fighting to survive the end times, features a ton of violence, drug use, and profanity, but the sexual content is what the directors felt was pushing it. Rogen and Goldberg told The LA Times that they purposefully shot for an NC-17 rating by making the movie [...]

Watch a Fake Trailer for 'Pineapple Express 2'

Seth Rogen and James Franco just released this fake trailer for Pineapple Express 2, which is really a trailer for This Is the End, an apocalypse comedy that stars them and Pineapple Express co-stars Danny McBride and Craig Robinson and non-Pineapple Express co-stars Jay Baruchel and Jonah Hill. Naturally, the sequel goes exactly where you'd expect it to: Rogen and Franco plotting to kill Woody Harrelson to take his weed. Don't trust any sequel movie trailers today; they're probably all April Fool's gags.

'This Is the End', 'Parks and Rec', and 'Key & Peele' Nominated for the 2014 American Comedy Awards

Nominations came out today for the American Comedy Awards, and This Is the End, Parks and Recreation, Key & Peele, and more all scored nominations. The American Comedy Awards ran from 1987 to 2001 before being discontinued, but NBC announced in October that the awards are being resurrected after 13 years away and that they'll be broadcasting them. Voting is open to the public, and you can cast your vote on the show's 19 categories, including categories for standups and web videos, by visiting the awards' official website or their Facebook page.

The American Comedy Awards' TV and movie nominations are pretty spot-on and more in [...]

Review Roundup: 'This Is the End' Is the Best-Reviewed Comedy of the Year

It's been a lackluster year for mainstream comedies, but it looks like Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg's directorial debut, This Is The End, is breaking that pattern by actually receiving positive reviews. The movie opens today, starring Rogen, James Franco, Jay Baruchel, Jonah Hill, Danny McBride, and Craig Robinson as fictionalized versions of themselves dealing with the apocalypse. Movie critics have generally praised the This Is the End's vulgar humor while deeming the movie a little self-indulgent and overlong and messy due to excessive improvisation. This Is the End earned a 79% and a 69/100 on review aggregators Rotten Tomatoes and Metacritic, respectively, making it the best-reviewed mainstream comedy [...]

Splitsider's Summer Comedy Preview: Movies

Iron Man 3 raked in a ton of cash this weekend and officially kicked off the 2013 summer movie season, which is set to contain an unusually high amount of comedies. From blockbuster sequels like The Hangover III and Grown Ups 2 to indie fare like Michael Cera's psychedelic drug movie Crystal Fairy and Joss Whedon's Shakespeare adaptation, this year's summer movie season has a wide variety of comedies to offer. Your best bets this time around look like Bridesmaids director Paul Feig's Sandra Bullock-Melissa McCarthy buddy cop movie The Heat and two dueling apocalypse comedies, This Is the End from Seth Rogen and Company and The World's End [...]

Watch the New Trailer for Seth Rogen and James Franco's Apocalypse Comedy 'This Is the End'

Here's Seth Rogen and James Franco introducing the new trailer for their apocalypse comedy This Is the End (previously titled End of the World), which comes out June 14th, 2013. It stars Rogen, Franco, Jonah Hill, Jay Baruchel, Danny McBride, and Craig Robinson as themselves facing the end of the world in Los Angeles. Rogen wrote and directed the movie with his longtime writing partner Evan Goldberg, and Michael Cera, Emma Watson, Paul Rudd, Jason Segel, Rihanna, Aziz Ansari, Mindy Kaling, Martin Starr, David Krumholtz, and Kevin Hart also appear as themselves. The trailer is being released this week to coincide with the Mayan-predicted apocalypse and features some jokes [...]

'This Is the End' Is Coming Back to Theaters This Friday

If you missed Seth Rogen's apocalypse comedy This Is the End when it was released in June, you'll get a chance to see it again on the big screen this weekend. The studio behind the movie is re-releasing it on 2000 screens on Friday to make more money and get more people to see it during what's expected to be a slow weekend at the box office. Starring Rogen, James Franco, Jay Baruchel, Jonah Hill, Danny McBride, and Craig Robinson as fictionalized versions of themselves, This Is the End was popular with both critics (84% on Rotten Tomatoes) and audiences ($96.7 million at the box office), a rarity for [...]

'This Is the End': Broing Out at the End of the World

In almost (gulp) 40 years, I've been to three films where the theater shook from the audience laughing so hard: Borat, Knocked Up, and, now, This is the End. Granted the crowd attending the sneak preview of This the End at the American Film Institute (AFI) were aspiring filmmakers salivating over the careers of the film's auteurs Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg. Even if you don't dream of being Hollywood's "it" boys, this self-referential buddy comedy is a fun ride thanks to the cast's infectious chemistry.

Comedy's reigning princes Seth Rogen, Jay Baruchel, James Franco, Jonah Hill, Craig Robinson, and Danny McBride star in this rambunctious feature, which hits [...]

Here's the New Trailer for Seth Rogen and James Franco's 'This Is the End'

Yesterday, Seth Rogen and company released a fake trailer for Pineapple Express 2 as an April Fool's Day gag, which ended up being a piece of actual promotion for their new apocalypse comedy This Is the End. Now, they've released an actual new trailer for This Is the End, a movie that Rogen co-wrote/co-directed that stars him, Jonah Hill, James Franco, Jay Baruchel, Danny McBride, and Craig Robinson as themselves. Beware, the trailer's jam-packed with spoilers, revealing some major character deaths and other stuff too.
