'SNL' Firing New Cast Members Displays a Show Still Deeply In Transition

Word has come down this week that SNL cast members Noël Wells, John Milhiser, and Brooks Wheelan have been let go from the show after one season, with Nasim Pedrad also leaving to work as a regular on Mulaney (a move that has long been anticipated) and Mike O'Brien's status currently in talks. Their departures don't come as too huge a shock — as we recapped at the end of last season, the three saw little screen time and had few memorable moments during the season. And while it must come as a disappointment to those actors and their fans, let's not forget that at least a third of everyone [...]

Tim Robinson Helps Mike O'Brien Find a Hot Date Outfit in 'Chicago Rats'

In this third and final episode of Above Average's sketch web series Chicago Rats, Tim Robinson goes out to a fancy clothing store with Mike O'Brien to help him prep for his big date by embarking on the best silly dressing room montage possible. Aidy Bryant and SNL writer John Solomon also make an appearance.

What to Look Forward to in 'SNL' Season 39

Season 39 of SNL kicks off this Saturday night with Tina Fey, Arcade Fire, and a mouthful of new names for Don Pardo to read off in the opening credits. After several seasons of little turnover, the cast is experiencing a major upheaval, with six — six! — new cast members to replace the departed Bill Hader, Jason Sudeikis, and Fred Armisen. This is the largest staff hire in 18 years, tying the 1995-1996 season's addition of Jim Breuer, Will Ferrell, Darrell Hammond, David Koechner, Cheri Oteri, and Nancy Walls. After the show's dismal 1994-1995 season, which saw near cancellation and the firing/resignation of 12 cast members, those six were [...]

Breaking Down Each Cast Member's Contribution to 'SNL' Season 39

With SNL's 39th season coming to a close, we're taking a look at the past season with a series of posts examining the highs, lows, and other memorable moments from the past eight months. Here, we look at the performers that make up SNL's current cast, including their overall contributions to the show, memorable roles, relative screen time, and prospects for returning next season.

SNL's 39th season was a crowded one. Record-breaking crowded, even. Six new hires, plus a seventh midseason, rose the total to 17, making the current cast the largest SNL has seen during its entire four-decade run, topping even the infamously bloated 1990-1991 season. That season only had [...]

Watch Mike O'Brien and Tim Robinson Star in the Most Reluctant Porn Ever

Here's the second episode of Above Average's sketch web series Chicago Rats, in which Conner O'Malley plays a different kind of porn director and Mike O'Brien, Tim Robinson, and Shelly Gossman play porn actors who have lots of "business meetings."

Breaking Down Each Cast Member's Contribution to 'SNL' Season 38

As mentioned in yesterday's post listing our favorite moments from this season of SNL, Season 38 has been dubbed a "transitional year" by many followers of the show. After a few years of relative stability among the core cast members, stars Kristen Wiig and Andy Samberg left a year ago, followed by Abby Elliott later in the summer. With the start of the new season, three performers from Chicago's improv and sketch community joined the cast: Aidy Bryant, Tim Robinson, and Cecily Strong. In the wake of Wiig's dominating presence on the show, two freshman females in particular have emerged as go-to's: Kate McKinnon, who joined the cast [...]

Tim Robinson Plays 'Late Night with Seth Meyers's Adorable #1 Fan

On last night's Late Night, SNL writer Tim Robinson showed up as Timmy, the show's 13-year-old #1 fan whose biggest dream was to be a guest on the show. Meyers made Timmy's dreams come true and even listened to his list of super rad improvement suggestions such as Seth dressing up like Batman, Seth dressing up as a wolf man, monster trucks, and a "batting cage rocket." Hopefully it all was worth it to impress Stacy.

Mike O'Brien Makes Tim Robinson Go Insane in 'Chicago Rats'

Here's the first of three episodes of Above Average's new sketch web series Chicago Rats, where Mike O'Brien slowly drives Tim Robinson to insanity after showing him his dick a bunch of times, despite how much Robinson wishes it was "a cool dog" instead. If your boss doesn't tolerate blurred-out penises you probably should save this video for later, and if your boss does tolerate them then you might be able to manipulate your way into leaving early today.
