Transparent, Amazon’s foray into the Netflix-infested waters of quality internet binge watching, is deservedly the most critically-lauded show of this Fall television season (and was just renewed for a second season). Created by writer/director Jill Soloway (writer/producer Six Feet Under and The United States of Tara, writer/director Afternoon Delight, which won a directing award at Sundance in 2013), the show centers around the Pfefferman family, an affluent Jewish LA clan whose patriarch Mort (Jeffrey Tambor) comes out as transgender and begins to live as Maura in her late 60s.

Last month, Amazon Studios added 10 new pilots to its original slate including three comedies, and Variety reports that two have officially been picked up to series following a test round with online views and feedback. Both Mozart in the Jungle (co-created by Roman Coppola, Jason Schwartzman, and Alex Timbers) and Transparent (written and directed by Jill Soloway) will join two drama pilots (Bosch, The After) as the online studio's newest greenlit projects. Arrested Development's Jeffrey Tambor is set to star in his second pilot for Amazon's streaming service. Tambor previously starred in Onion News Empire, a critically-acclaimed pilot from The Onion that debuted with Amazon's first batch of original pilots this spring. Deadline reports that Tambor will be playing the lead in a new Amazon comedy called Transparent, written by Six Feet Under alum Jill Soloway and also starring Gaby Hoffman (Veronica Mars movie).
