'Friends of the People': A New Sketch Show Finds Its Voice

Since truTV greenlighted Friends of the People, their new sketch comedy show set to anchor the network’s crossover into original comedic programming, the storyline that’s occasionally popped up is that the series’ inception came to fruition after the In Living Color reboot ultimately did not reboot. However, FOTP is not a revised version of the scrapped ILC series.

The grain of truth in that narrative is that three of FOTP’s cast members, Jermaine Fowler, Jennifer Bartels, and Lil Rel Howery, were set to star in the ILC revival and that’s where they met. That’s it. What did happen is Fowler, Bartels, and Rel realized they had chemistry and that they [...]

No One Will Ever Be Offended by Shaq.0

No, Comedy Central is not replacing Daniel Tosh with Shaquille O'Neal, but close! TruTV has just ordered 10 episodes of Upload With Shaquille O’Neal, a new show produced by Tosh.0 co-creator Mike Gibbons that'll feature Shaq, Godfrey and Gary Owen jokin' around about "a selection of the finest viral videos the Web has to offer." They'll also be making "their own viral videos and pranks," because nothing makes a video go viral faster than calling it a viral video before it's been produced. I'm not the biggest fan of shows centered around jokin' bout web videos, but for those that are it's nice to have a few options, [...]

Shaq Inq. will follow O'Neal and his "offbeat, yet capable" business team who take on "the mayhem of managing Shaq’s existing products and endorsements while implementing his latest batch of eccentric and oftentimes brilliant business ideas. While they’re all working towards the same goal, each employee is constantly jockeying for the power and recognition to make the big guy proud." The pilot is written by The Wedding Ringer's Jeremy Garelick, directed by Galavant's John Fortenberry, and co-executive produced [...]

The series will be set in Denver and follow Cayton-Holland, Orvedahl, and Roy as "three dysfunctional high school teachers who are as screwed-up as the kids they teach. When an entitled bully decides to make their lives miserable, they go to ridiculous lengths to exact revenge." Former SNL writer and Broad City co-executive producer Eric Slovin will [...]
