Maya Rudolph Might Return to NBC in a New Variety Show

The world definitely needs more Maya Rudolph right now, and NBC might make that happen by bringing back, in some form, her 2014 one-off variety show The Maya Rudolph Show. According to Variety, sources close to NBC confirmed that "discussions have been revived" with Rudolph for a show that will be a "possible companion" for Neil Patrick Harris's untitled weekly variety show, which is expected to debut its 10-episode season sometime this year.

In addition to the possible NBC show, Rudolph is also set to appear in IFC's The Spoils Before Dying, the Lorne Michaels-produced HBO pilot Brothers in Atlanta, and Bill Murray [...]

The Multi-Talented Maya Rudolph's Finest Musical Moments

Yesterday, NBC announced that The Maya Rudolph Show, a new variety show special from the comedic actress of the same name, will premiere on May 19th. The Lorne Michaels-produced one-off special, which features guests like Craig Robinson, Andy Samberg, and Janelle Monáe, will serve as a pilot for a Rudolph-fronted variety show for the network.

Rudolph hosting a variety show is no surprise as she's had dual passions for music and comedy for decades now. The daughter of soul singer Minnie Ripperton, Rudolph worked as a keyboardist and backup singer for the band The Rentals before landing at SNL. On SNL and Up All Night, Rudolph sang frequently, goofing [...]

Neil Patrick Harris to Host a Weekly Variety Show for NBC

NBC is adding another weekly show called Saturday Night. Vulture reports that the network has teamed up with actor and next year's Oscars host Neil Patrick Harris to head up an American adaptation of the UK variety show Saturday Night Takeaway that will tape in Harris's home base of New York City. "As I watched the show, I couldn't stop smiling. Now that I've seen many seasons, my face hurts. It's a game changer," said Harris on the news. "Nothing like this has been done before, and it's unique structure fits right into my random skill set. I can't wait to roll up my sleeves and have [...]

NBC Orders a Pilot for Maya Rudolph's Variety Show; Will Air as a Primetime Special

Maya Rudolph is coming back to NBC. Deadline reports that the network has ordered a pilot for an untitled variety show starring Rudolph and produced by Lorne Michaels, who worked with her on SNL and Up All Night. NBC will air the pilot in February as a primetime special following the Winter Olympics. Presumably, the network will order the pilot to series if the special does well. With Rudolph and Michaels working on this, the show should have no trouble landing well-known guests from both the music and comedy worlds.

After Up All Night was canceled last February, Maya Rudolph turned down five sitcom pilot offers and [...]
