Mary-Louise Parker to Star in NBC Pilot 'Feed Me'

Former Weeds star Mary-Louise Parker is getting ready to return to TV. She's signed on to play the lead role in the NBC comedy pilot Feed Me, Deadline reports. The single-camera comedy follows a dysfunctional family running a restaurant, with them fiercely protecting their daughter after her husband has an affair. The pilot was written by Sally Robinson, who recently scripted the TV remake of Steel Magnolias. Mary-Louise Parker will also serve as a producer on the pilot, which, if it's picked up, will be her first regular TV role since Weeds ended its seven-year run in 2012.

The Slow Death of the Traditional Television Season

If you haven't noticed, this isn't the end of 2012 (and according to my Mayan friend, Maya, the end of the universe). We are drawing a distinction between a Season In Review and a Year In Review, as to celebrate the traditional television season. But in doing so, I realized the idea of the television season itself doesn’t seem to loom as large as it once did. The excitement over finales and the despair over time apart from favorite shows feels shorter lived. Mostly, it doesn’t feel final, as it's not like television is going anywhere. If anything, the summer is a more exciting time for television as for [...]

Trade Roundup: Steve Carell, Ben Stiller, And Weeds

Welcome back to the trade roundup, or as it should rightly be called, the Steve Carell Movie Tracker. Dude's just added ANOTHER project to his list of upcoming movies. This one's called Lunatics and it's about "two soccer dads whose conflict with each other grows into a series of escalating events until both of them are sent running for their lives." Ooh, a series of escalating events. Sounds…pretty typical for a movie, actually.

It looks like Ben Stiller is going to be making some TV shows! He has a general production and development deal with ABC that lasts till 2013, which is definitely enough time to round [...]

Fun Thing to Buy of the Day: 'Weeds' Season 8

Weeds Season 8 comes out on DVD and Blu-Ray this week. Season 8 was actually finally the final season of Weeds so this DVD is all there is left. After this you won’t be able to see any more of Mary Louise Parker as a pot-selling suburban mom, unless maybe you buy all the other DVDs and rewatch them. Also Steve Martin and Kevin Nealon did the theme song (with banjos, natch) for one of the Season 8 episodes, which is another good reason to add this DVD to your personal collection if you like those guys.

Listening to the DVD Commentary for Weeds, "Corn Snake"

Columentary (title sadly not pending) is a weekly feature, in which I’ll listen to the commentary track of a sitcom, and divulge, through pretty pictures and less pretty words, the behind-the-scenes secrets the creators, writers, and cast discuss about their show. If you've ever wondered about that one guy who once starred in that thing, but whom everyone loves because he's such a nice guy on set, this is for you.

Show: Weeds

Episode: "Corn Snake" (S02E01)

Original Airdate: August 14, 2006

Episode Plot: Marijuana dealer Nancy Botwin (Mary Louise Parker) attempts to break off contact with the DEA agent she slept with in the season one finale, Peter [...]

Talking Weed and Weeds with Writer/Producers Stephen Falk and Victoria Morrow

Stoner comedy on television is a different breed than stoner films. Sure, there are the occasional five minutes of screen time on a comedy series where one or more characters get stoned, get the munchies and then freak out. But usually the mixture of television and marijuana is limited to various cop shows and episodes of Intervention. But in 2005, Showtime premiered a show entirely about weed: dealing, growing, baking, consuming, everything. And the biggest shocker is that the main characters were not your typical gangbangers or drug dealers. Instead, the dealer in question is a suburban mother and widow, trying to keep her family [...]

'Weeds' Is Officially Entering Its Last Season

The upcoming eighth season of Weeds will be the show's last. Weeds really pioneered Showtime's definitive brand of protagonist driven pseudo-comedies. There had been some speculation of it ending previously but the move seemed especially likely when Justin Kirk signed on to star in the much sillier NBC sitcom Animal Hospital. Though, an animal hospital would be a perfect front for a weed dealer. Watch out for that that – old habits die hard.

Weeds Returns For Season One Million (Okay, Eight)

The annual winner of the That Show Is Still On? Prize, Weeds, is coming back for season eight on July 1. May it stay on for 20 more seasons that you only watch because "this has gotta be the last one."

HBO vs. Showtime: Battle of the Premium Cable Comedies

Earlier this week, Showtime aired the premieres of Californication, now in its fourth season, and the brand new show Episodes. For years, the network barely bothered with comedy, but lately, with the rise of HBO, they’ve been trying to make shows beyond Dexter and The L Word, shows that will actually make you laugh. But how are they doing compared to their main competitor (sorry, Starz)? Let's pit Showtime and HBO's current five best comedies against one another and see who comes out on top.
