NBC Renews Greg Poehler's 'Welcome to Sweden' for a Second Season

Greg Poehler's new show Welcome to Sweden has already been renewed for a second season on Sweden's TV4, and now its American outlet has done the same thing. According to THR, NBC has officially renewed the series for a 10-episode second season, though an official premiere date has not yet been determined.

Welcome to Sweden's season premiere this summer brought in 3.5 million total viewers for the network, making it the second-highest-rated summer comedy major network debut in the last five years, falling just behind NBC's other recently renewed series Undateable.

NBC Announces Summer Premieres for New Sitcoms 'Welcome to Sweden', 'Working the Engels', and 'Undateable'

Summer is traditionally not the best time of year for broadcast networks to launch new scripted shows, but NBC is doing so anyway. The Peacock Network announced today that three of its new sitcoms will be debuting this summer. Here are their premiere dates:

  • Thurs., May 29th at 9pm: Undateable, a comedy about a guy trying to turn a group of losers nicknamed "The Undateables" into romantically successful people. Created by Adam Sztykiel (Due Date), produced by Bill Lawrence (Scrubs, Cougar Town), and starring Chris D'Elia (Whitney) and standups Ron Funches and Brent Morin.
  • Thurs., July 10th at 9pm: Welcome to Sweden, an English-language Swedish comedy [...]

Amy Poehler and Her Brother Are Producing a TV Show in Sweden

Amy Poehler is getting into the international TV business. THR reports that Poehler and her brother Greg have sold an English-language show to the Swedish network TV4. Called Welcome to Sweden, the series will be produced via the Poehlers' newly-formed international production company Syskon (which is Swedish for "sibling"). Welcome to Sweden is a semi-autobiographical series based on Greg Poehler's life, and he'll be making his acting debut in the series as its lead character Bruce, a New York accountant who falls for a Swedish lady and moves with her to her home country. What's On TV This Week: NBC Premieres 'Working the Engels' and 'Welcome to Sweden'

This week, NBC is premiering two original summer comedies Working the Engels and Welcome to Sweden, co-productions with Canadian and Swedish broadcasters respectively. Working the Engels stars SCTV's Andrea Martin as a widow who, with the help of her family, tries to keep her late husband's law firm afloat, while Welcome to Sweden, from executive producer Amy Poehler, was created by and stars her brother Greg Poehler as an American guy who falls in love with a Swedish woman and moves to her home country with her. Nearly a year ago it was announced that Amy Poehler and her brother Greg sold a show to the Swedish television network TV4 called Welcome to Sweden starring Greg as an American accountant who falls in love with a Swedish woman and follows her back to Stockholm. The series premiered in Sweden on Friday, and above is the trailer featuring special guest Will Ferrell speaking both English and Swedish. NBC bought the rights to Welcome to Sweden back in October, so if the series does well across the pond then hopefully we can watch Swedish Ferrell in the near future. Swedish TV Renews Greg and Amy Poehler's 'Welcome to Sweden' for Season 2

Welcome to Sweden, the Swedish sitcom Amy Poehler is producing that was created by and stars her brother Greg, was renewed  for a second season by Swedish broadcaster TV4 today, Digital Spy reports. The show was such a big hit over there that it was renewed after just two episodes. Season two will consist of 10 episodes, just like the first season.

NBC Buys a Swedish Sitcom from Amy Poehler and Her Brother

NBC has bought the rights to a Welcome To Sweden, a sitcom produced by Amy Poehler and her brother Greg. The show, which was the first English-language series commissioned by Sweden’s TV4, is about an American accountant who falls in love with a Swedish woman and follows her back to Stockholm. Greg Poehler makes his acting debut in the series, which will be filmed in Sweden, New York and Los Angeles, and include cameos from Amy Poehler and others like Will Ferrell, Aubrey Plaza and Gene Simmons. There's no word yet on when it'll air.
