'Happy Endings' Writer Brian Gallivan Sells a Show to ABC

Brian Gallivan, a staff writer for the recently-canceled ABC sitcom Happy Endings, has just sold another show. Deadline reports that Gallivan is writing an untitled comedy about a father who, dreaming of being on vacation all year, moves his family to New Hampshire where they open a group of tourist cottages. Gallivan will also produce alongside Will Gluck, director of Easy A and producer of the upcoming Michael J. Fox Show. This is the second show Gallivan and Gluck have in development for the 2014-15 TV season together after The McCarthys, a multi-camera family comedy at CBS based on pilot the network narrowly passed on this season.

ABC Is Developing a Cop Comedy from 'Community' Writer Andy Bobrow

ABC just put into development a new sitcom called Rookie, about a woman in her 20s who attempts to reinvent herself by becoming a cop, in turn finding a surrogate family amongst her fellow police officers. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the show was created by longtime Community writer Andy Bobrow, who will also serve as executive producer alongside Easy A director Will Gluck. Bobrow has been a writer/producer on Community since the start of its second season, and he's penned some of the series' more memorable episodes, like "Basic Rocket Science," "Mixology Certification," and "Pillows and Blankets," so this should be something all you Community fans are [...]

Comedy Central Orders an Animated Pilot from Will Gluck and 'Conan' Writer Scott Gairdner

With Futurama on the way out, Comedy Central has a new animated comedy in the works. THR reports that the cable network has commissioned an animated pilot called Moonbeam City. The pilot will be executive produced by Will Gluck, director of Easy A, and written/created by Scott Gairdner (pictured), a former writer/director for Funny or Die who is currently on Conan's writing staff. Moonbeam City is an absurdist riff on '80s crime dramas following Dazzle Novak, a dumb, handsome undercover cop who is desperate to avoid solving crimes. Gairdner, creator of web series like Tiny Fuppets and Clip Cup, surely has some amazing stuff cooked up for [...]

CBS Orders Pilots from Greg Garcia and 'Happy Endings' Writer Brian Gallivan

Pilot season is underway, as the major networks are all buying up new shows in bulk to become potential series in the fall. CBS just purchased three new comedies, two created by Raising Hope/My Name Is Earl/Yes, Dear head honcho Greg Garcia and another from Brian Gallivan (pictured), a Second City vet and a writer for Happy Endings. Gallivan's pilot is The McCarthys, a single-camera family comedy written by Gallivan and loosely based on his life as the only gay son of a sports-loving Irish-Catholic family in Boston. It sounds promising and not like the type of show you usually get on CBS. If it gets picked up, it'll be [...]
