NBC Cancels 'Working the Engels' Starring Andrea Martin

Not even two months after premiering on NBC, Canadian import Working the Engels has been canceled. THR reports that the family comedy starring Andrea Martin and Kacey Rohl — which was given a straight-to-series order last year and featured Martin's fellow SCTV alums Martin Short and Eugene Levy in recurring roles — will not have a second season on the network. Working the Engels  was replaced on NBC's lineup with Greg Poehler's Welcome to Sweden after slipping in the ratings. The series originally premiered on Canada's Global TV back in March and was canceled after all 12 episodes aired. Only five episodes have aired on NBC.

'SCTV' Stars Martin Short, Eugene Levy, and Andrea Martin to Reunite for Martin's New NBC Series

Last month, NBC ordered 12 episodes of a new comedy starring Andrea Martin called Working the Engels for the 2014-15 TV season, and now, a couple of her SCTV costars will be turning up in guest spots. TV Line reports that Martin Short and Eugene Levy will both be guest starring on Andrea Martin's show during the first batch of 12 episodes. The show stars Martin as Ceil Engel, a self-involved but loving mother who has to work with her kids to keep her recently-deceased husband's law firm afloat to keep the family out of debt. What's On TV This Week: NBC Premieres 'Working the Engels' and 'Welcome to Sweden'

This week, NBC is premiering two original summer comedies Working the Engels and Welcome to Sweden, co-productions with Canadian and Swedish broadcasters respectively. Working the Engels stars SCTV's Andrea Martin as a widow who, with the help of her family, tries to keep her late husband's law firm afloat, while Welcome to Sweden, from executive producer Amy Poehler, was created by and stars her brother Greg Poehler as an American guy who falls in love with a Swedish woman and moves to her home country with her. NBC Announces Summer Premieres for New Sitcoms 'Welcome to Sweden', 'Working the Engels', and 'Undateable'

Summer is traditionally not the best time of year for broadcast networks to launch new scripted shows, but NBC is doing so anyway. The Peacock Network announced today that three of its new sitcoms will be debuting this summer. Here are their premiere dates:

  • Thurs., May 29th at 9pm: Undateable, a comedy about a guy trying to turn a group of losers nicknamed "The Undateables" into romantically successful people. Created by Adam Sztykiel (Due Date), produced by Bill Lawrence (Scrubs, Cougar Town), and starring Chris D'Elia (Whitney) and standups Ron Funches and Brent Morin.
