Watch a Trailer for YouTube's Comedy Week

YouTube is holding its first-ever comedy week from May 19 to 25th, and they got Sarah Silverman, Rainn Wilson, Jake & Amir, the Gregory Brothers, and a bunch of people I'm not familiar with together to film this promo. They're not in this promo, but Vince Vaughn, Seth Rogen, Michael Cera, Ed Helms, Garfunkel & Oates, and Norm Macdonald will also be participating in the event, a week of stand-up, sketches, music, and live performances, to finally bring some comedy to the serious, serious video site.

Here Are Reggie Watts's First Two JASH Videos

JASH, a new YouTube channel featuring original content from Sarah Silverman, Michael Cera, Tim & Eric, and Reggie Watts launched earlier this month, and today, Reggie Watts debuted his first two videos for the channel. The first (above) is a music video for a song called "If You're Fucking, You're Fucking." The second (below) is the first episode of a web series called One Take, in which Watts makes a song based on four different YouTube comments each time. Get ready to have a regular dosage of soundboard musical comedy in your life.

Watch a New Sketch BriTANicK Made for the Above Average Network

Last year, Above Average began partnering with internet sketch groups to commission new videos, and here's the first Above Average video from the network's partner BriTANicK. Other Above Average partners include sketch groups Paulilu, Magic Hugs, and Bobby Chicago, who have each made an original video for the YouTube channel and helped Lorne Michaels to make his iron grip on the comedy world even stronger.

NBC’s Attempt to Steal YouTube’s Audience by Adding Cute Animals and Babies Is Off to a Slow Start

Videos of cute animals and babies always score a ton of hits on the Internet, and this season, NBC execs introduced a new strategy to try to poach YouTube’s much, much larger audience by adding more adorable furry creatures and infants to its primetime lineup. The cornerstone of NBC’s experimental new “people think babies and animals are cute” model is its Wednesday night sitcom block of Animal Practice and Guys with Kids, which premiered last night to lower-than-expected, Vimeo-sized ratings, a far cry from the YouTube-level Nielsens NBC executives had expected. Animal Practice earned a paltry 1.4 rating in the 18-49 demo, down considerably from the 4.1 the [...]

Old YouTube Clips of the Now Famous: Steve Carell

"Old YouTube Clips of the Now Famous" is a column in which we watch old YouTube clips of now famous funny people.

Since he started on The Daily Show in 1999, Steve Carell's career steadily and surely built momentum until a few breakout roles made him one of the biggest working actors in Hollywood. In a time where it's become increasingly hard for a single performer to carry the success of a film, Carell has been able to do so handily. Not to mention, the man is obscenely talented, likeable, and funny. And yet at one point he wasn't famous and YouTube has a record of that. With Seeking [...]

The Gregory Brothers Give Charles Ramsey the Auto-Tune Treatment

Musical comedy entity the Gregory Brothers have already built a song around news footage of newly-minted abduction case hero/internet celebrity Charles Ramsey, and it's possibly catchier than their famed "Bed Intruder" song.

Watch Sarah Silverman's First JASH Video

Here's Sarah Silverman's first video for JASH, the new YouTube channel she's creating original content for alongside Michael Cera, Tim & Eric, and Reggie Watts. Entitled "Sarah Silverman is NOT not a Racist," it stars her and her sister/Sarah Silverman Program costar Laura Silverman. The video is supert short, clocking in at only 28 seconds (or five Vines).

Above Average Launches a New Sketch Series Starring Eliot Glazer

Here's the first episode of a new sketch series from the Above Average Network called Eliot's Sketchpad and starring comedian Eliot Glazer, whom you may know as the star and writer of the web series It Gets Betterish or as an Assistant Editor at Vulture. The first one just debuted today, and it stars Glazer as Oprah, recreating famous viral videos with her friend Gayle. Above Average is the YouTube channel from Lorne Michaels's production company Broadway Video, which also produces SNL, 30 Rock, Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, Portlandia, and everything else you love. New episodes of Eliot's Sketchpad drop each Thursday, and SNL's Kate McKinnon will appear in [...]

A Video Guide to The Lonely Island’s Pre-'SNL' Years

To someone who wasn’t paying attention to web comedy in the early 2000s (and before YouTube and Funny or Die, who could blame you?), it may seem like The Lonely Island, the comedy conglomerate made up of Andy Samberg, Akiva Schaffer, and Jorma Taccone, came out of nowhere when they were snatched up by Saturday Night Live in 2005. Despite the trio’s seemingly-fast rise to fame, they were far from an overnight success.

Samberg, Schaffer, and Taccone all met while attending junior high together in Berkeley, California in the late 80s. Samberg was a year younger than Schaffer and Taccone, but the three soon became a part of [...]

Fred Armisen is Spending His 'SNL' Time Off Seriously

In honor of Fred's project, I'm going to write this post real serious-like. SNL has been on break for just a week but Fred Armisen is already looking to fill up his free time and fill it up seriously. "Be Serious for 30 Seconds" is a project that asks the video making public to be serious for 30 seconds. The instructions are after the jump and are pretty simple. Well, except rule 1, "It has to be serious." [Cutaway to a Keurig machine] Despite Fred imploring people to not try to be funny [5 second dramatic pause...], that is the only thing people are doing. How dare they!!!! This [...]

YouTube Is Launching a Comedy Week with Seth Rogen, Ed Helms, and More

YouTube announced today that they'll be holding their first ever "comedy week" next month. The event will feature performers Vince Vaughn, Seth Rogen, Sarah Silverman, Michael Cera, Ed Helms, Garfunkel & Oates, and Norm Macdonald in a week of stand-up, sketches, music, and live performances. It'll take place the week of May 19th to the 25th, kicking off that Sunday with a live variety show running 90-120 minutes. Silverman and Cera are currently working to create content for the new YouTube comedy channel JASH, while Norm Macdonald hosts a show on YouTube's Video Podcast Network. YouTube's comedy week will be run by Daniel Kellison, who oversees both JASH [...]

Ricky Gervais Signs a Deal to Make Original YouTube Content

Ricky Gervais just signed a deal with ChannelFlip, a UK online video company that runs over 140 million YouTube channels, to produce his own content that will be released via his YouTube channel, Deadline reports. Gervais will be releasing  "sketches, filmed podcasts & behind the scenes antics and interviews from the forthcoming The Muppets… Again." The first official video will be The Office Revisted, a new short film starring Gervais his old character David Brent that will debut on BBC and online tomorrow. Hopefully, the YouTube channel won't feature as much mocking of disabled people as the rest of Gervais's work..

Sarah Silverman, Michael Cera, Tim & Eric, and Reggie Watts Are Working on Stuff for a New YouTube Channel

The Hollywood Reporter announced yesterday that Daniel Kellison, creator of The Man Show and ex-producer of Jimmy Kimmel Live, is developing two new YouTube channels, Jash and Video Podcast Network, which are both expected to launch in January. Jash is a comedy network that will feature content from Sarah Silverman, Michael Cera, Tim & Eric, and Reggie Watts (all of whom have had a great deal of success with web vids in the past), while Video Podcast Network will present – you guessed it – video versions of popular podcasts. Adam Carolla is so far the first and only one to sign onto Video Podcast Network, but [...]

Rainn Wilson's YouTube Channel Is Different from Other Comedians' Channels

What Chris Hardwick's Nerdist is for nerds, Rainn Wilson's Soulpancake is for spirituality. It's a bit different than the standard YouTube fair but there's something admirable in that. Don't be surprised if every cold open to The Farm is just Dwight meditating silently. Actually, be very surprised if that's the case because that would be totes jarring.
