On The Complete Dan Harmon Channel 101 Canon

@MisterHippity I knew it was a lost cause when they eliminated The High-Fiver. I did enjoy Who's Gonna Train Me, though. I'm a horse trainer!

On The Rise and Fall and Fall and Fall of Hipster Bashing

The best definition of a hipster as it exists today that I've read, though I can't remember exactly who it's attributed to, is a person who desperately wants to feel creative, and compensates for lack of inborne talent / gifts through outre and obscure tastes. Which I think is both weirdly elitist and anti-intellectual at the same time. On the one hand, it assumes that you can't really have "taste" unless you're blessed with the ability to create, and most people don't. On the other hand, it assumes dishonesty in preference, that no one can genuinely enjoy, say, industrial avant-garde music or little-known Cleveland soul albums, and the only "authentic" people like AC/DC or Kenny Chesney or whatever. There's also a prevailing, ineffable sense of a hostility against the androgyny of the hipster stereotype. By that definition I am absolutely a hipster - I have no artistic talents, and I really love some weird shit. But I love it, like really really love it and I don't care what anyone else thinks, and I don't really like talking about it with people because it's impossible to do without being a bore (or a boor). Thing is that folks like me can really be aggravating to be around, when we're enthusiastic, and that's what makes them work as a target of satire. You just have to hone in on that, and avoid the veiled "Real America" / fag-bashing sentiment that undercuts so much of that humor.

On How Showtime Became the New Source for Black Comedy

I'd give you Dexter in the first season, but at this point he's essentially a superhero. Also, Weeds is terrible and has been for several seasons. Shameless is a poor substitute for the original, etc.
