On How Do Wise, Elbow-Patched Comedy Scholars Fare at an Open Mic?
Didja ever notice how people who study comedy are all...and those who do comedy are all.... I'm surprised the article doesn't mention National Lampoon's Professor Kenilworth Explains the Joke. That was fine academic comedy analysis.

On Louie Recap: "New Jersey; Airport"
I liked the ending (and the seond half of the episode) because he left the airport so happy (and almost ran into the door--comedy!) but he's never going to be happy, and we don't have to see that made explicit. Much better that he is left as a poor deluded schlub (pathos-wise). We keep rooting for him, but nobody gets what they want, and even when they do, they're still not happy. If Pamela comes back next season, maybe they'll get together and continue their misery, as people sometimes do.

On Louie Recap: "Subway/Pamela"
The logistics of it notwithstanding, I thought it was one of the better episodes of the series. Lots of good character interaction. It certainly had more going on it in that respect than last week's episode. And the fantasy subway scene was like something out of a movie. Very cinematic overall, something I never think about with other tv shows. Fun fact: the violinist in the subway was playing Monti's Csardas, a Hungarian Gypsy piece written by an Italian.

On Louie Recap: "Country Drive"
This episode felt padded. I think watching him rock out to The Who went on way too long. Having the old lady die was a way out of having her explain anything to the kids. I would have preferred that she lived and been bewildered by their reaction to her language (just like in real life!). And what to make of the two staring Sikh kids at the gas station? It reminded me of the equally random scene of homeless guys being switched.

I support this idea. Make it happen, someone.

On Louie Recap: "Moving"
This was such a great episode, but yeah, the homeless guys getting switched was odd. I'm sure it means something, but I have no idea what. No fart jokes in this episode, though, so slight disappointment.

On The Princess Bride Letters
Awesome article. I think it's in his memoir that Goldman says he asked his daughters what kind of story they wanted, and one wanted a story about a princess, one wanted a story about a bride, and thus the Princess Bride was born. He must have been a great dad.
