On In Defense of the Multi-Camera Sitcom

The single camera shot, on TV and in film, has always bothered me. At the risk of sounding psychology 101-corny-analytical, I feel it is indicative of the pathology of the present generation of entertainment and society. With a million more channels and shows there are many more opportunities for actors, thus less talented people are starring in things they might not have been previously. The quicker scenes and cuts commonly seen in single-camera shows allow for shows to edit around mediocre acting and put the focus more on the activity and less on the actors. I feel also, indicative of a generation consumed by technology and iphone text messaging there is less desire for character development in shows and movies. People aren't getting to know each other as well in real life - why should they care to get to know protagonists so well either. It sounds biased but I feel people who prefer multi-camera shows are probably people who are emotionally more available and more sensitive to poor acting.
