On SNL Recap: Maya Rudolph and the Magic of Breaking

Definitely tells you something about the strength of a returning cast mate when they go back to only one of her recurring characters and just one of the impressions she did on the show. While Bronx Beat was pretty much the high light of the episode, they've done it already a few times after Maya left (counting the online only sketch with Betty White). Wouldn't have minded seeing a return of Noni & Noni. Kind of debating whether or not I would have liked to have seen the return of Donatella, but I guess the Beyonce sketch accomplished the same cavalcade of celeb impressions with a more timely setting. Then again, seeing Donatella and Stefon in a room together would have been great. Also, I hope Maya Angelou is glad she's finally been played by a woman on SNL after three guys already offered up their impression on the show.

On Hey Readers: What Do You Want to See More of on Splitsider?

Obviously its the purpose of this site, but the lazerlike focus on professional comedy sometimes seems claustrophobic. Not necessarily a complaint, but sometimes I feel like I'm reading about the same hundred people all the time. The Cuban Comedy post a few weeks back and the Tourism column in general are a nice diversion. Also, I've just wanted to point out that Norman Lear's name only comes up twice when I search for it and none of his sitcoms made the tournament.

On The Strange Fad of Comedian-Based Saturday Morning Cartoons

I think this premise segued into the trend of making Saturday morning cartoons out of Jim Carey movies. I think at one point Ace Ventura, Dumb & Dumber and The Mask cartoons were all on at the same time on the same network.

On South Park Recap: "1%"

Going through various recaps of last night's episode I've realized comedy nerds and fashion nerds don't often overlap. Muscle Man Marc was the show's way of, I guess, saying thank you to Marc Jacobs for inexplicably having tattoos of Clyde Frog and Rumpertumskin inked on his body.

On The Sexual Proclivities of Friends

I could have sworn that Phoebe and Ross once did it on a pool table, but the internet tells me that was a flashback episode and the deal was never sealed. That episode I guess also including near-dalliances between Joey and Monica, and Rachel and Chandler.

On Saturday Night’s Children: Kenan Thompson (2003-Present)

It's also worth maybe mentioning Keenan co-starred with Chris Farley in what would turn out to be his last comedy sketch ever: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cTNOYeBpZ-0

On Saturday Night’s Children: Kenan Thompson (2003-Present)

My age puts me in that sweet spot where I fondly remember his Nickelodeon days, and though I had watched the show for sometime before, the majority of episodes of SNL I've watched live on a Saturday night have included Keenan in the cast. I've always secretly hoped there'd be some sort of sly All That or Good Burger reference on SNL, especially as the show has more hosts that probably got their first dose of what sketch comedy was by watching Keenan on Nick.
