On Letterman's 10 Most Genuine Moments with His Guests

As someone who's been a faithful Letterman viewer since he began in late night in 1982, I can only say that if he thinks Dave was struggling to find his way in the 1980s, Mr. Sanzgiri must be very young. The show was groundbreaking and hilarious in those days. It's still good today, but the notion that eight of these ten clips should be from the past five years is way off the mark. And Artie Lange at the top of the list? Different strokes, I guess, but it strikes me that Mr. Sanzgiri was the not ideal person to write this story. And Dave sharing his feelings on the first show following the events of 9/11 was a must-include, even if a guest wasn't involved. That was some of the finest, most genuine television I've ever witnessed. I'll add that Dave has long had an appreciation for oddballs and outsiders, and that is underepresented in Mr. Sanzgiri's list as well. PeeWee Herman, Tom Waits, Brother Theodore, Sandra Bernhard the little old lady who ran a nut museum in Connecticut, and so many others -- all have had memorable moments on the show, and rest assured that few, if any, other programs were booking these guests in those days.
