On The Forgotten Brilliance of Popular

YES! The fact that Popular has been so forgotten is a travesty. Mary Cherry is the best. *mouths: Shovel

On HBO vs. Showtime: Battle of the Premium Cable Comedies

I still don't understand why Nurse Jackie is branded as "comedy". It's pretty dark with some genuinely funny parts. It's kind of like saying The Sopranos was a comedy, even though it happened to be one of the funniest shows on TV it was never branded a comedy. Same with US of Tara to a lesser degree

On The Legacy of Friends — Or Lack Thereof

Definitely think that the impact of Friends may have become so ingrained in our conversations and attitudes to comedy, lines and sitcoms in general that we don't always notice it's there because it's from 10 years ago. Also it IS just different comedy, one that doesn't pander so much to our ever decreasing miniscule attention spans. Not that I don't love the quick quips and new techniques in 30 Rock etc. Also - HIMYM was pretty much marketed as "the new Friends" here in the UK.

On The Arrested Development Movie Is a Lousy Idea and It's Your Fault

I wouldn't say it's a lousy idea. Obviously it's impossible to replicate the magic of the show on the big screen (actually, a better reason not to want it is that stylistically it probably won't translate well and will look and feel too different) but things like the recent Seinfeld "reunion" on Curb shows that it can be awesome to have a bit of a much-loved old show back.
